The University at Albany – State University of New York is a state-run university located in Albany, New York. Albany is a small, urban city with a population of a little over 98,000. It’s located about 150 miles away from Manhattan. UAlbany or SUNY Albana, as the university is fondly called, was founded in 1844 and has a long history of empowering students for success. In fact, one of the most recognizable alumni was Harvey Milk. The university has also been recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America’s Top Colleges. The University at Albany has a campus area of about 1421 acres divided into 3 campuses located nearby. The main campus, also called the Uptown Campus, is located in Albany at 1400 Washington Avenue. The Downtown Campus is located at 135 Western Avenue, and the third campus is the Health Sciences Campus located in Rensselaer, the city right across the Hudson River.

There are about 17,000 students enrolled at UAlbany and 13,000 of these are undergrads. The student body gender ratio is almost an equal split at 48% being male and 52% being female. Another important metric is the acceptance rate at UAlbany, which is 54%. Also, there are more than 700 full-time faculty at UAlbany, setting the student-to-teacher ratio at 18:1. There are 4 residence quads comprised of eight 3-story residence halls at UAlbany that house about 1,200 students. Another single-room apartment-style residence at Empire Commons houses another 1,200 and another apartment, called Liberty Terrace that houses another 500 students.
Acceptance Rate at UAlbany
The acceptance rate at UAlbany for applicants is 54%. Accepted students have an SAT composite rating range between 1000 – 1160 or an ACT composite range of 23- 25. The High School GPA average for freshmen is about 3.6 and the middle 50% of the accepted freshmen applicants fall between the range of 3.3 – 3.7.
