It can be stressful to apply to the university of your dreams and then be rejected. Some students apply to as many schools as possible because they hope at least one institution will admit them. However, this approach can be unnecessary, even if application costs are not a major concern.

If you want to improve your chances of being admitted, some US colleges and universities use an open-admission policy, which generally means applicants who meet basic requirements are admitted. Program-specific requirements may still apply, especially for selective or limited-enrollment programs. Below is a list of schools commonly associated with open admission (100% acceptance rates), with current details updated where available.

US Universities with 100% Acceptance Rate

1. Bismarck State College

We start with Bismarck State College on our list of US universities with a 100% acceptance rate. Located in North Dakota’s capital city, Bismarck State College is a public college established in 1939. BSC offers several ways for students to earn an undergraduate credential or prepare for transfer:

BSC serves several thousand students. Its campus is located in Bismarck, a city of about 78,000 residents, while the wider Bismarck metro area has about 139,000 residents.

2. Utah Tech University

  • Acceptance Rate: 100% for undergraduate applicants who meet open-enrollment criteria; graduate programs may have separate requirements

Utah Tech University, formerly known as Dixie State University, is located in St. George, Utah, in the southwestern part of the state. The university began as St. George Stake Academy when it was founded in 1911 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dixie State College became Dixie State University in 2013, and the institution changed its name to Utah Tech University in 2022.

This university with a 100% undergraduate acceptance rate offers a wide array of programs, including certificates, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, graduate programs, and online options.

Utah Tech students can also join study abroad experiences, including faculty-led programs that vary in length and are often offered during summer or other academic breaks. Exchange and partner programs may also allow students to study abroad for a semester or a year, depending on the program.

3. Wayne State College

Wayne State College traces its roots to 1891, became a state-supported normal school in 1910, and has used its current name officially since 1963. Its campus is located in the rural community of Wayne, Nebraska.

This college with an open admission policy offers more than 130 career pathways. WSC students who complete a bachelor’s degree can also pursue graduate study through one of the college’s graduate programs.

Graduate options include programs such as the Education Specialist degree, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and Master of Science in Organizational Management (MSOM), with several graduate programs available online.

Wayne State features seven residence halls for students who want to be more involved in the college community. Housing options include themed living communities that allow students with shared interests to live together.

The athletic teams at the college are known as the Wildcats and compete at the NCAA Division II level. Men’s and women’s sports teams are available in sports such as basketball, football, and softball. Sports culture is an important part of Wayne State, which has alumni who went on to play professionally, including Lamart Cooper, Ruben Mendoza, and Kevin Swayne.

4. Weber State University

This public university was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Ogden, Utah, less than 40 miles north of Salt Lake City, the state’s capital. Weber State University has a main campus in Ogden, a Davis campus in Layton, and additional centers and locations in northern Utah.

The university serves more than 26,000 students and offers a broad range of certificate, associate, bachelor’s, and graduate programs in fields such as anthropology, geology, elementary education, and web and user experience.

Certain bachelor’s and master’s degrees are also available online for students with personal or professional responsibilities, making it possible to study with more flexibility.

5. Indian River State College

Next on the list is Indian River State College (IRSC). Located in Fort Pierce on the east coast of Florida, the college was established in 1959 and is currently led by President Dr. Timothy E. Moore. Its main campus began on an 87-acre site in Fort Pierce, and the college now offers more than 130 programs leading to bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees, technical certificates, and applied technology diplomas.

Students can find programs in many fields at IRSC, from accounting and nursing to education and criminal justice. Career training is also available for students who want to move directly into the job market, including pathways in fields such as carpentry, barbering, and nursing assistance.

IRSC also provides student support and wellness resources, helping students access services that support their academic, physical, and personal well-being.

6. Boston Architectural College

  • Acceptance Rate: 100% (open admissions for onsite degree programs)

The only architectural college on our list of 100% acceptance rate universities is Boston Architectural College (BAC) in Boston, Massachusetts. It offers bachelor’s and master’s programs in architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, and design studies. Several graduate programs are also available online, although program length depends on the degree and the student’s previous academic or professional background.

Aspiring college students who are still in high school can apply to one of its pre-college programs. For example, the Summer Academy introduces high school students to design fields such as architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, and urban planning through an immersive program available in Boston and, for some offerings, online.

BAC’s focus on practice-based design education has helped prepare students for careers in architecture, interior architecture, landscape architecture, and related design fields.

7. City University of Seattle

  • Acceptance Rate: 100% (open admission policy)

As we approach the end of this article on 100% acceptance rate universities, we come to City University of Seattle (CityU). The private nonprofit institution was founded in 1973 and offers flexible programs for working adults and other students.

CityU offers more than 60 programs, including undergraduate and graduate degrees, certificates, and endorsements. Programs are available online, on-site, or in mixed-mode formats. CityU also has locations and partnerships in Washington State and abroad, including locations in Canada, China, the Czech Republic, Mexico, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Vietnam. Because many programs are designed for flexibility rather than a traditional residential campus experience, students should review program delivery, location, and student-life options directly with CityU before applying.

8. Academy of Art University

We end with the Academy of Art University, a private for-profit art and design university in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1929 and currently serves about 5,500 students. The university offers 120+ art and design programs and 900+ classes, with options in areas such as animation and visual effects, interior architecture and design, fashion, fine art, architecture, and other creative fields.

High school students who are interested in attending the Academy of Art University can join the Pre-College Art & Design Experience (PCADE). Study abroad opportunities are available to Academy students. For example, the university’s current study abroad offerings include summer programs in Italy that allow students to study art, design, and culture abroad.
