Iowa State University is among the best in the country and the largest within the state of Iowa. Located in Ames, it began as an agricultural college set up by Iowa’s legislative system back in 1858. Although it was founded during a time when female education was not fully supported, Iowa State University was still able to offer a coeducational learning environment. It was among the first institutions to benefit from the land-grant policy of 1862. The university was built on strong research and innovation principles which led to the addition of “Science and Technology” to its name in 1949. The 2018 enrollment was the fourth largest in the school’s history standing at just under 35,000 students. Iowa State University has about 29,600 undergrads, 4,700 graduates, and 500 professional students. The Iowa State of Regents set out to have at least 8.5% of the annual enrollment being the minority. In the fall of 2018, that goal was exceeded by about 6%, which has been the case for most of the years. At least 10.5% of the student body is admitted from over 126 countries. The current percentage of in-state students is 57% which shows that the school has almost equal considerations for both Iowans and non-Iowans.

Acceptance Rate at Iowa State University

With an acceptance rate of 89%, Iowa State University has one of the least competitive admission processes. In the last cycle, about 19,500 applicants were interested in joining ISU and 17,000 were accepted. Therefore, your chances of being the next ISU’s freshman are very high provided you meet the requirements.

Scores above 1430 and 28 in SAT and ACT respectively almost guarantee you a place in ISU. Previous successful applicants averaged a GPA of 3.6 (B+). In addition, ranking in the top 26% of your high school class is highly recommended.
