California State Polytechnic University, Pomona AKA Cal Poly Pomona, CPP or just Cal Poly is one of the state-funded and run universities in the 23 campuses California State University System. It was founded in 1938 as the Cal Poly Voorhis Unit in San Dimas but was later renamed and moved. Cal Poly has a large 1,400-acre campus situated in the suburban city of Pomona. With a population of about 150,000, Pomona nowhere near resembles a ghost town and is in fact a bustling city in its own right. The campus is also located just 30 miles away from downtown LA. In this article, we will be looking at the acceptance rate at Cal Poly Pomona.

Cal Poly Pomona offers close to 100 bachelor’s degrees, about 40 master’s degrees, about 10 doctorates, and more than 10 teaching specialization credentials. All these are offered through Cal Poly Pomona’s 8 colleges. These are the college of Agriculture, the College of Business Administration, the College of Hospitality Management, College of Environmental Design, College of Engineering, College of Education and Integrative Design, the College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences, and the College of Science. Aside from these colleges, the College of Extended University was also established to meet the educational needs of working professionals who can’t be full-time students. There are 8 partner colleges through the CEU program that offer academic opportunities to complete master’s degrees in the most flexible way possible.

Every year, there are about 26,000 students enrolled in Cal Poly Pomona. Of these 26,000, there are about 24, 000 who are undergrads and about 1,500 students who are graduates. There are about 1, 200 faculty members employed making the student-to-teacher ratio of about 25 is to 1. About ¾ of all classes have students that are more than 20. The ratio of male students to female students is at 54 is to 46.

Cal Poly Pomona is known for its academic excellence. You can join this university if you are a strong student academically. The acceptance rate at Cal Poly Pomona is 60%.

There are over 50 student clubs and organizations that you can choose from to enhance your social experience as a student at Cal Poly Pomona. If you prefer to join athletic varsity teams, then it’s good to know that the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos are members of the NCAA Division II. This is a good college for those who have dreams of representing the USA in the Olympics since several Olympic medals have been won by Cal Poly Pomona students.

The housing accommodations available on campus are not capable of housing every student because of the large number of students studying in Cal Poly Pomona. The on-campus residences are only able to house about 3,500 but there are available residences that are located near campuses that students can take advantage of.  The campus is also recognized as a very LGBT-friendly campus, so student residence halls are non-binary and are in fact gender-neutral.

Acceptance Rate at Cal Poly Pomona

The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona’s acceptance rate for applicants is just about 60%. The GPA requirement to be accepted is 3.5.  The average SAT composite score is at 1100. There is no fixed SAT minimum, but a composite score of at least 1000 will get applicants considered.
