California State Polytechnic University, Pomona AKA Cal Poly Pomona, CPP or just Cal Poly is one of the state-funded and run universities in the 23 campuses California State University System. It was founded in 1938 as the Cal Poly Voorhis Unit in San Dimas but was later renamed and moved. Cal Poly has a large 1,400-acre campus situated in the suburban city of Pomona. With a population of about 150,000, Pomona nowhere near resembles a ghost town and is in fact a bustling city in its own right. The campus is also located just 30 miles away from downtown LA.
