Top Architecture Schools in Europe

1. University College London

University College London is home to the Bartlett School of Architecture, which offers undergraduate and postgraduate architecture programs.

The Bartlett’s undergraduate options include the three-year Architecture BSc, the five-year Architecture MSci, and Architectural & Interdisciplinary Studies BSc. UCL also offers a broad range of postgraduate architecture degrees.

2. Delft University of Technology

Delft University of Technology, also known as TU Delft, is the oldest and largest technical university in the Netherlands.

Its Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment offers a bachelor’s program in Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences and an MSc program with the same name. The faculty also supports doctoral research.

3. ETH Zurich

ETH Zurich offers architecture programs through its Department of Architecture.

The bachelor’s degree in Architecture requires 180 ECTS credits over three years and is supplemented by a six-month internship. ETH Zurich also offers a consecutive master’s degree in Architecture.

4. University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge states that 126 of its affiliates have received Nobel Prizes.

Cambridge’s undergraduate admissions site describes Architecture as a four-year integrated master’s course leading to a BA (Hons) and MArch. The curriculum combines studio design with subjects such as history and theory, urbanism, construction, structural design, and environmental design.

5. Politecnico di Milano

Politecnico di Milano offers programs related to architecture, landscape, urban planning, and construction engineering.

Its undergraduate options include the three-year Architectural Design program and Urban Planning: Cities, Environment & Landscapes. Its master’s portfolio includes Architecture and related programs such as Architectural Design and History, Architectural Engineering, Sustainable Architecture and Landscape Design, and Urban Planning and Policy Design.

6. Manchester School of Architecture

Manchester School of Architecture is a collaboration between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. It has more than 100 experts and more than 1,000 students from over 80 countries.

Its current programs include BA (Hons) Architecture, MArch, MA Architecture and Adaptive Reuse, MA Architecture and Urbanism, and Master of Landscape Architecture. Its professional architecture pathway includes the BA program at RIBA Part 1 and the MArch program at RIBA Part 2.

7. Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne

Located in Switzerland, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, also known as EPFL, offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral study in architecture.

EPFL offers a three-year, 180-ECTS bachelor’s degree in Architecture, followed by a two-year, 120-ECTS master’s degree. Admission to the master’s program requires a 12-month architecture internship. EPFL also offers the EDAR doctoral program in Architecture and Sciences of the City.

8. Lancaster University

Lancaster University offers a BA (Hons) Architecture, an MArch Master of Architecture, and an Architecture PhD.

Both the BA (Hons) Architecture and MArch are accredited by RIBA. The MArch is also fully accredited by the Architects Registration Board.

9. University of Glasgow

The architecture programs linked here are delivered by the Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh School of Architecture. All Glasgow School of Art degree programs are validated by the University of Glasgow.

The BArch leads to an ordinary degree after three years or an honors degree after four years. Full-time students normally undertake a year of practical training between Years 3 and 4. The postgraduate route includes the Diploma in Architecture and an MArch by conversion.

10. KTH Royal Institute of Technology

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm offers architecture education through its School of Architecture.

KTH lists a 300-credit Degree Programme in Architecture, with the first three years taught in Swedish, and a 120-credit master’s program in Architecture.
