Motorbikes are one of several ways to travel around Vietnam. Visitors can also travel by plane, train, and bus. Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer, and Son Doong Cave in Vietnam is recognized as the world’s largest single cave passage.

International students can find a range of university options in Vietnam. Tuition varies by university, academic year, and program, so applicants should review the latest official fee information before applying.

Now, let’s take a look at the affordable universities in Vietnam for international students.

Affordable Schools in Vietnam for International Students

1. Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU)

Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) is the largest comprehensive higher education and research center in Vietnam. It was reorganized in December 1993 through the amalgamation of the University of Hanoi and several other leading universities in Hanoi.

VNU reports directly to the Prime Minister and has a high level of autonomy in areas such as academic programs, personnel, scientific research, finance, and international relations. It can also work directly with ministries, government bodies, and provincial and municipal authorities on matters related to VNU.

Because VNU includes multiple universities, schools, institutes, and programs, applicants should confirm the current tuition fees and scholarship opportunities for their intended program through the official VNU website or the relevant VNU unit.

2. The Ho Chi Minh University of Technology (BK)

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), also known as Bach Khoa, is a state-owned comprehensive university established in 1957. It is a member of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), which is a separate national-university system from Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

HCMUT’s international-study office lists institutional accreditations from HCERES and AUN-QA, as well as program-level recognition that includes ABET and AUN-QA. Its official fee page publishes estimated tuition by academic year and program. The university also states that scholarships may cover tuition fees in part or in full.

3. The University of Danang (UD)

Established under Government Decree 32/CP dated April 4, 1994, the University of Danang (UD) is a regional university system formed through the merger of several institutions. Its member institutions offer programs in areas such as engineering, technology, economics, education, and foreign languages.

For 2026 admissions, foreign applicants can apply for undergraduate study at UD member universities and training units. UD states that tuition for self-funded international students follows the 2026–2027 fee announcement of the relevant training institution. Applicants should review the fee notice for their chosen institution before applying.

4. Ho Chi Minh City International University (HCMC)

International University (IU) is a member university of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM). It is separate from Vietnam National University, Hanoi and should not be confused with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, another VNU-HCM member university.

Established in 2003, IU describes itself as the first state university in Vietnam to use English as the medium of instruction. Its official website lists institutional and program-level quality assessments and accreditations, including MOET, AUN-QA, ASIIN, ABET, ACBSP, and FIBAA. Students should review the official admissions site for current program, tuition, and scholarship information.

5. RMIT University

Offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs, RMIT University‘s Vietnam campus is the Asian campus of Melbourne-based RMIT University. Its official international-student page states that students can earn internationally recognized qualifications while studying in Vietnam.

RMIT Vietnam should be compared separately with the public universities above. Its official tuition-fee page states that, for new higher education students enrolled in 2026, many bachelor’s programs have estimated annual tuition of VND 375,840,000. Some programs have different total fees. Students should review the current fee page and available scholarships for the program they plan to pursue.

Vietnam offers international students several higher education options, but study costs vary widely. Compare current tuition fees, scholarships, program language, and admissions requirements on each university’s official website before applying.
