With many diet-related health concerns affecting different parts of the world, there is a growing need for nutritional and dietary knowledge. Nutrition degrees are available worldwide, ranging from undergraduate to graduate and doctoral levels. Studying abroad is another way to gain access to more nutrition programs, experience different cultures, and learn about different approaches to nutrition.

English proficiency is often required for studying abroad, and many universities accept tests such as IELTS and TOEFL. Top Countries to Study Nutrition

1. United States of America

When it comes to international education, the United States remains one of the most popular options for students. It is an English-speaking country with a wide range of degrees and exceptional universities to choose from. The United States is also a strong country for studying nutrition because many universities offer nutrition, nutritional sciences, dietetics, or food science programs at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.

It is important to keep in mind that studying in the United States can be expensive. At highly selective private universities, annual tuition alone can exceed $70,000, and housing and food can add around $20,000 or more per year. Public universities and some graduate programs may cost less, so students should check each university’s current cost of attendance page. Scholarships and financial aid may be available, but eligibility varies by institution. International students on F-1 visas can usually work on campus if they meet visa rules, while off-campus work is restricted and generally requires authorization.

2. United Kingdom

One reason why the United Kingdom is a strong country to study nutrition is that it offers nutrition and dietetics programs to students from around the world at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Students can find options such as nutrition and dietetics bachelor’s degrees, public health nutrition master’s programs, and dietetics routes that include practical or professional training.

In comparison to many destinations, the United Kingdom offers structured nutrition and dietetics programs that combine theoretical study with practical learning. Some programs also include placements or professional accreditation requirements, especially in dietetics.

Tuition, excluding other fees, varies by university and program. Current examples for international students include about £14,950 per year at the University of Chester and about £19,200 to £20,800 per year at Coventry University, depending on the program. The University of Surrey’s latest course pages should also be checked directly because some future-entry fees are listed as to be confirmed. Scholarships, student loans where eligible, and part-time work may help reduce the cost of education. Student visa work rules in the UK typically limit work during term time to the number of hours stated on the student’s visa conditions, often 10 or 20 hours per week. The country’s universities offering nutrition-related programs include University of Surrey, University of Chester, and Coventry University.

Tuition for nutrition-related programs can be higher than older estimates suggest. For example, the University of Wollongong lists the international total course fee for its Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) at AUD 166,656 for 2026, while Adelaide University lists an indicative annual fee of AUD 56,600 for its Master of Science specialization in Global Food and Nutrition Science. Housing and living costs vary by city and accommodation type. When school is in session, international students on student visas are generally limited to 48 hours of work per fortnight, so students should check the latest visa conditions before planning their budget.

4. Spain

Spain’s universities are well regarded, and the country is known for offering a mix of public and private higher education options. Tuition can differ between public and private institutions, and students from outside the EU may pay different fees from EU students, depending on the university and region.

Nutrition-related study options in Spain include bachelor’s programs in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, such as those offered by the University of Navarra and Complutense University of Madrid. The University of Navarra also offers a double-degree route combining Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics. Saint Louis University – Madrid offers a Nutrition, Health and Wellness minor rather than a standalone nutrition degree. Scholarships are available in Spain for international students, but coverage and eligibility vary by provider.

Part-time work may be permitted while pursuing your studies, but it must be compatible with your studies and comply with Spanish immigration rules. Current Spanish rules allow qualifying higher-education students to work up to 30 hours per week under certain conditions. Listed institutions you can look into for nutrition-related study include Saint Louis University – Madrid, University of Navarra, and Complutense University of Madrid.

5. Qatar

Qatar’s higher education system has continued to develop, and many programs are offered in English, particularly at universities with international partnerships or English-medium instruction. Qatar can be an attractive option for students looking for a safe and culturally distinctive study environment.

Because Qatar is a conservative country, students should be mindful of local laws and cultural expectations. Qatar University advises students to dress modestly on campus, especially in classrooms, laboratories, and public university spaces.

Qatar University is the main institution in this list offering nutrition-related degrees. Its Department of Nutrition Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, a Master of Science in Nutrition, a Minor in Nutrition, and a Minor in Food Safety. Tuition is charged per credit rather than as a single flat annual fee. Qatar University lists undergraduate tuition by college or major, and graduate master’s tuition is QR 2,200 per credit hour for most master’s programs admitted from Fall 2023 onward. Students at Qatar University are generally not allowed to work outside the university, but they may be able to apply for part-time on-campus student employment.

6. Singapore

The National University of Singapore offers food science and human nutrition options, including undergraduate and graduate study. The Singapore Institute of Technology offers a four-year Bachelor of Science with Honours in Dietetics and Nutrition, while Singapore Polytechnic offers a full-time diploma in Food Science and Technology. Tuition also varies by institution and level. For example, Singapore Polytechnic lists international tuition for full-time diplomas at S$12,000 per year, while SIT’s subsidized international tuition for its 240-credit Food Technology degree is listed as S$111,180 in total.

During the school year, eligible Student’s Pass holders may work up to 16 hours per week without a separate work pass if they meet Ministry of Manpower requirements. Course-required internships and industrial attachments may also be allowed under the relevant rules. Furthermore, universities in Singapore may offer scholarships, financial aid, or on-campus housing, depending on the institution. Furthermore, many courses are taught in English, with additional language support available at some institutions.

Malaysia offers three-year bachelor’s degrees in nutrition, food science, or related fields, as well as graduate study options at some institutions. Current examples show that Monash University Malaysia’s Bachelor of Food Science and Technology lists 2026 international tuition at RM 60,480 per year, while the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s BSc Nutrition lists international tuition at RM 60,000 per year. Taylor’s University lists its Bachelor of Food Science (Honours) as a three-year full-time program, with international tuition listed as a total program fee. Scholarship opportunities vary by institution and level of study.

International students in Malaysia may be allowed to work part time, but the rules are limited. They may work up to 20 hours per week only during semester breaks or holidays of more than seven days, and they need prior approval from Malaysian immigration authorities.
