In terms of religion, Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world. Affordable Schools in Indonesia for International Students

1. University of Indonesia

Based in Depok and Jakarta, the University of Indonesia, or Universitas Indonesia (UI), traces its roots to medical education in the Dutch East Indies and officially began operating as Universiteit Indonesia in 1950. It developed from a multi-campus university with faculties in several Indonesian cities before some units later became separate institutions.

Today, UI offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs through 14 faculties, two graduate schools, and one vocational education program. The university also provides international admissions information for prospective bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students.

2. Institute of Technology Bandung

Founded on March 2, 1959, the Bandung Institute of Technology, or Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), was established by the Indonesian government as an institution of higher learning in science, technology, and fine arts. ITB is now an autonomous public university, which means it has greater freedom to manage its programs, planning, and institutional development while remaining a public institution.

3. Bogor Agricultural University

Established on September 1, 1963, Bogor Agricultural University is now officially known internationally as IPB University. The university was founded from agricultural higher education roots in Bogor and continues to focus on agriculture, biosciences, agromaritime studies, and related fields.

IPB University has expanded beyond its older academic structure. Its current academic units include fields such as agriculture, fisheries and marine science, animal science, forestry, mathematics and natural sciences, economics and management, human ecology, engineering and technology, medicine and nutrition, and other schools and programs.

4. Universitas Gadjah Mada

Universitas Gadjah Mada is commonly called UGM. Established in 1949, UGM is one of Indonesia’s oldest public universities and remains one of the country’s leading institutions. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, UGM is ranked 224th globally and is listed among Indonesia’s top two universities.

5. Airlangga University

Officially established in 1954, Airlangga University, or Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), is the third state university in Indonesia. At its establishment, UNAIR had five founding faculties, including medicine, dentistry, law, teacher training and education, and letters. It has since grown into a larger university with 15 faculties and one postgraduate school.

UNAIR continues to offer international undergraduate programs and accepts international students through its current admissions channels. Its International Undergraduate Program page lists programs, intake schedules, capacities, and tuition fees for the 2026/2027 academic year.

6. Brawijaya University

Brawijaya University, or Universitas Brawijaya (UB), was established by the President of the Republic of Indonesia through a wire dated July 11, 1961, and later became a state university. Located in Malang, East Java, UB is now one of Indonesia’s leading universities and offers a wide range of programs for domestic and international students.

Some universities publish tuition amounts in different admissions pages depending on the program, degree level, or applicant category. For the most accurate cost, review each university’s official admissions or tuition-fee page before applying.

If a tuition link is not listed for a specific program, it does not mean that the program has no tuition fee.
