The five universities below maintain official pages describing English-taught programs or courses. Because the language of instruction can vary by department and degree level, applicants should review each university’s current program page before applying.
Top Universities for English-taught Programs in Taiwan
1. National Taiwan University
National Taiwan University (NTU) offers more than 200 degree programs and thousands of courses taught in Chinese and English.
NTU’s official English-taught program page lists undergraduate options such as economics, civil engineering, intelligent engineering and technology, and biotechnology and food nutrition. It also lists graduate options in fields including climate change and sustainable development, nursing, and engineering.
NTU also reports partnerships with more than 600 universities in over 60 countries, creating opportunities for international study and research.
2. National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University
National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) was established on February 1, 2021, through the merger of National Chiao Tung University and National Yang-Ming University. The university combines Chiao Tung’s strengths in information and communications technology with Yang-Ming’s strengths in biomedical research.
NYCU identifies Acer founder Stan Shih as a distinguished alumnus. His academic background is connected to the former National Chiao Tung University.

3. National Tsing Hua University
National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) is ranked #176 globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026, making it the second-highest-ranked university in Taiwan in that edition. It is a separate institution from Tsinghua University in China.
NTHU is adjacent to Hsinchu Science Park, known as Taiwan’s “Silicon Valley.” Its international admissions catalog distinguishes fully English-taught programs, programs with enough English courses to meet graduation requirements, and programs with partial English instruction. English-taught options are available in fields including science, engineering, computer science, and technology management.
4. National Cheng Kung University
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) offers English-taught options at several degree levels. The university was established as Tainan Technical College in 1931 and became Taiwan Provincial College of Engineering in 1946, so its historical roots are in technical and engineering education.
NCKU’s current international admissions page lists full-English programs and programs with enough English courses to satisfy graduation requirements. Options include undergraduate and graduate programs across fields such as engineering, public health, management, planning and design, medicine, and biosciences.
NCKU also publishes scholarship information for international degree students. Current university scholarships include the NCKU Elite Doctoral Scholarship and the NCKU Distinguished International Student Scholarship. Eligibility, coverage, and renewal rules depend on the award and the student’s admission cohort.
5. National Chengchi University
Another institution in Taiwan offering English-taught programs is National Chengchi University (NCCU). NCCU’s official materials state that it has English-taught programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels and partnerships with universities around the world that support exchange, visiting scholar, and academic cooperation opportunities.
NCCU’s featured English-taught programs include the International College of Innovation bachelor’s program, the International Master’s Program in Asia-Pacific Studies, the International Doctoral Program in Asia-Pacific Studies, the International MBA, and the International Master’s Program in International Communication Studies. These options cover areas such as global studies, social sciences, economics, business, and communication.
