FAQs: IELTS Acceptance in Australia

Is an Overall Band Score of 6.0 Good Enough to Study in Australia?

For many universities, an overall band score of 6.0 passes the minimum requirement of English proficiency; however, if you want to study in a field of medicine, midwifery, and health sciences, you will be required to have a higher score in IELTS such as 6.5 or 7.0. The main reason for this high standard is that you need to be highly proficient in English if you want to take courses that put human lives at stake.

It is highly understandable since you need to completely understand what your teacher is talking about and what your textbook is saying since one misinterpretation in English can lead to disastrous results.

What is the Lowest IELTS Score that Passes the Standards of Australian Universities?

The lowest overall score of IELTS that passes the admissions requirement of Australian universities would be around 6.0 to 6.5. As previously mentioned, 6.0 is a great score to aim for since many universities in Australia have a minimum score of 6.0.

If you want to pass by a thread, 5.5 will be the score to go for since some Australian universities do allow students with that overall score to take courses in their universities. Last but not least, many universities in Australia offer English courses that international students can take if they are struggling with English.
