Affordable Medical Schools in Lithuania

1. Lithuanian University of Health Sciences

  • Tuition Fees: €12,800 per year for Years 1–3; €13,300 per year for Years 4–6

Lietuvos sveikatos mokslų universitetas, or the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), was established in 2010 through the merger of Kaunas University of Medicine and the Lithuanian Veterinary Academy. LSMU describes itself as Lithuania’s largest higher education institution for biomedical sciences. Based in Kaunas, the university includes the Medical Academy and the Veterinary Academy. LSMU reports around 8,000 students. Its Medicine program page states that international students make up 28 percent of its student body and that the university offers 20 programs in English.

LSMU’s Medicine program is taught in English. Graduates receive a Master of Health Sciences degree and the professional qualification of Medical Doctor. The program lasts six years and consists of 360 ECTS credits. Its curriculum uses problem-based learning, and LSMU states that students develop clinical skills in the largest clinical hospital in the Baltic states. Tuition is €12,800 per year for Years 1–3 and €13,300 per year for Years 4–6.

2. Vilnius University

  • Tuition Fees: €14,100 per year

Vilniaus universitetas, or Vilnius University (VU), was founded in Vilnius in 1579. VU describes itself as the first and largest university in Lithuania, with branches in Kaunas and Šiauliai. As of October 1, 2025, VU had 26,553 students, including 3,424 foreign students. As of December 2024, the university reported 3,487 academic staff members.

VU’s full-time integrated Medicine program is taught in English. Graduates receive a Master of Health Sciences degree and the professional qualification of Medical Doctor. The program lasts six years and consists of 360 ECTS credits. It is administered by the Faculty of Medicine. Students use university training bases, research institutes, and public and private healthcare institutions. Annual tuition is €14,100. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026, VU is ranked 401–500 in Medical and Health.
