In general, higher education in Canada is considerably cheaper than that in its southern neighbor, the USA. At the same time, however, its quality is just as good and, for some majors, even better. It is not a surprise, then, that many young Americans prefer to cross the border northwards and earn a higher education degree from one of Canada’s numerous and very well-reputed universities.

In this article, we shall have a look at the tuition fees of eight universities in Canada, starting with the most expensive and the highest-reputed schools. All of the fees quoted below are average values and are valid for undergraduate programs.

1. University of Toronto

Toronto is Canada’s throbbing heart, full of young people from all over the world. All of them represent different cultures, nationalities and ethnic groups. The University of Toronto is the most popular university in this beautiful and vibrant city and, why not, in the whole of Canada.

Every year, it attracts over 90,000 students from across Canada and from abroad. They come to Toronto to immerse in the city’s infatuating rhythm, make new friends and earn a higher education degree recognized all over the globe. The two most popular undergraduate programs at the University of Toronto currently are Management and Computer Science.

 

2. Ryerson University

Ryerson University is the main competitor of the University of Toronto not only because they are located in the same city, but also because of the high quality of their graduate and undergraduate programs. Some of the university’s most popular undergraduate programs are IT Engineering, Computer Sciences, and General Psychology.

First-year students can do their research and develop their class projects in one of the university’s 11 computer labs, or use one of the 1,400 laptops that are made available for the period of their studies.

 

3. University of Saint Mary’s

The atmosphere at the University of Saint Mary’s is truly international, as one-third of its full-time undergraduate students come from abroad. Its most popular undergraduate programs are in the fields of Business, Entrepreneurship and Computer Sciences.

On their official website, it is said that Saint Mary’s is actually the only Canadian university to offer a Bachelor’s program in Entrepreneurship. The program is administered by Saint Mary’s University Entrepreneurship Centre. In addition, Saint Mary’s Sobey School of Business trains Canada’s business leaders of tomorrow!

 

4. University of Montreal

First and foremost, it should be mentioned here that all undergraduate programs at this university are taught in French. This is one of the leading universities in Canada in terms of its undergraduate programs in the fields of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences.

More than 35,000 students enroll in the University of Montreal every year. Montreal is perhaps Canada’s second most youth-appealing city after Toronto. For all foreign students who choose to study at this university, integration into the local community should be one of their top priorities. As soon as they receive their Letter of Acceptance from the university, they should file an application for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ).

 

5. University of Alberta

Founded back in 1908, the University of Alberta is most famous for its undergraduate programs in Civil Engineering, Automation & Control and Veterinary Sciences. Many projects for environment and wildlife protection are realized by students and researchers at the university every year in close partnership with the local authorities.

This is one of the best schools in Canada to earn a degree in Health Sciences, Engineering, and Business. Latest statistics rate McMaster University as the 154th best research university in the world.

 

7. University of Calgary

The University of Calgary proudly sits among the 200 best research universities in the world and its academic leadership is firmly decided to make it Canada’s best research institution. This university is nationally-famous for its undergraduate programs in Archeology and Ancient & Medieval History.

An interesting fact about the campuses of this school – four of them are located in the Calgary area and one is in Doha, the capital city of Qatar! The university is also the home of the International Microbiome Centre – the only research institution in Canada dedicated to exploring the microbiome!

 

8. University of Ottawa

This university in the capital, Ottawa, is perhaps the best place to earn a degree in Medicine in Canada. Here, you have a choice regarding the tuition language: some of the undergraduate programs are offered in French, while others are taught in English. There are programs that are taught in both languages.

Over 30,000 students come to study at the University of Ottawa every year and about 20% of them are from abroad. Many young people choose this school for its award-winning programs in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation.
