The Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) and the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) offer a joint doctoral scholarship program that combines study at both institutions. Selected candidates will enroll as PhD students at NUS FASS for a 48-month program, with 38 months spent at NUS (funded by NUS) and 10 months at Harvard University (funded by HYI). Scholars are encouraged to complete their Harvard residency after finishing their PhD Qualifying Examination and any required fieldwork, with the exact timing subject to approval from both their NUS and Harvard thesis advisors.
