The Journey
Good day, fellas! Talitha from Indonesia here! I began my career as a Communication Specialist at a government institution in Indonesia. Five years ago, I made a bold decision to pursue my master’s degree in Taiwan, and I am currently working here after graduation. I chose an MBA program because it offers a strong, general foundation that is applicable across many industries.
For me, pursuing a master’s degree is not only about gaining academic knowledge, but also about experiencing life overseas, expanding a global mindset, and building connections with people from around the world. It is about stepping out of the comfort zone and growing both professionally and personally.
Taiwan Ministry of Education (MoE) Scholarship Details
I was awarded the Taiwan Ministry of Education (MoE) Scholarship by the Taiwanese government, which covered NT$40,000 for tuition fees and provided a monthly allowance of NT$20,000.
Educational Background
I graduated with a degree in Mass Communication, where I built a strong foundation in strategic communication, media analysis, public relations, and audience engagement. This background trained me to think critically, communicate ideas clearly, and adapt messages to different stakeholders. Those are skills that are highly transferable across industries.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to Institutions?
How Did You Find Information About Scholarships and Institutions?
I received the scholarship information from a senior who graduated from a university in Taiwan and was also a recipient of the same scholarship.
Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?
I took the TOEFL as part of my scholarship application and prepared by setting a daily study schedule and regularly taking mock tests.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Scholarship?
- Select the top 10 universities in Taiwan and choose a major that offers an English-taught program.
- When applying to universities, it is recommended to apply to at least three institutions.
- At the same time, apply for the Taiwan Ministry of Education (MoE) Scholarship. The requirements may vary each year, so it is strongly recommended to regularly check the latest information from the Taipei Trade Office in your country. In general, the required documents include:
- Study plan
- English proficiency test result
- Letter of recommendation
- Previous diploma and academic transcripts
What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?
Make your study plan realistic and practical. Clearly explain why you want to study in this field, what your plan is during the study period, and which courses or focus areas you intend to choose. Describe what you can contribute immediately after graduation, and explain why you deserve to receive the scholarship.
In this section, you can highlight your previous achievements and the methods or approaches you used to accomplish them. You should also describe your personality, work ethic, and values to demonstrate your potential and commitment.
What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?
I requested recommendation letters from different perspectives: one from my university professor, and another from an industry professional who knows me well and can speak to my practical skills and work experience.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
Choose the top 10 universities and take time to understand yourself better, including your strengths and weaknesses. Find a mentor who can guide you through the application process and provide valuable advice.
