The Journey

My name is Srey Nith Pheng, and I am from Cambodia. I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Accounting in South Korea through the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS).

My journey in accounting began when I chose to study Accounting for my Bachelor’s degree in Thailand. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a deeper understanding of financial systems and realized the importance of accounting in supporting business growth and economic development. This inspired me to continue my studies at the graduate level.

I decided to pursue my Master’s degree in Korea because of its excellent education system, global learning environment, and strong support for international students. I wanted to gain advanced knowledge, international experience, and prepare myself for a professional career in accounting.

Global Korea Scholarship Details

I was honored to receive the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), funded by the National Institute for International Education.

The scholarship provides full financial support, including:

  • Full tuition coverage
  • Monthly stipend of 1,000,000 KRW for living expenses
  • Round-trip economy airfare
  • One year of fully funded Korean language training
  • Medical insurance and settlement support ( can change)

This scholarship has allowed me to focus fully on my academic goals without financial stress.

Educational Background

I completed my high school education in Cambodia, where I built my academic foundation and developed my dream of studying abroad.

After that, I pursued my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in Thailand. Studying in an international environment helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident. It also strengthened my academic knowledge and prepared me for graduate-level study. Now, I am continuing my academic journey by pursuing my Master’s degree in Accounting in Korea.

How Did You Prepare to Apply to Gyeongsang National University?

I carefully prepared my application by researching universities and scholarship opportunities. I worked hard on my personal statement to clearly explain my academic journey, my goals, and why I wanted to study accounting in Korea.

I also prepared all required documents, including my academic transcripts, recommendation letters, and study plan.

How Did You Find Information About the GKS Scholarship and Gyeongsang National University?

I found information through scholarship websites, online research, and social media. I also learned from seniors and other scholarship recipients, which helped me understand the process better.

Experience in Korea

Studying in Korea has been a life-changing experience for me. Moving to a new country was challenging at first, especially adapting to the language and culture. However, these experiences helped me grow stronger, more independent, and more confident.

I also had the opportunity to meet people from many different countries and learn from diverse perspectives.

Language of Instruction

My program includes Korean language training, and my academic courses are conducted in Korean and English, depending on the course.

Learning Korean has helped me integrate better into academic life and daily life in Korea.

What Made Your Application Stand Out?

I believe my international academic journey made my application unique. Studying in three different countries, Cambodia, Thailand, and Korea, shows my adaptability, determination, and commitment to my education.

I also clearly explained my goals and passion for accounting in my application.

What Would You Have Done Differently?

If I could do it again, I would prepare earlier and apply to more scholarships. Preparation and confidence are very important in the application process.

Advice for Future Applicants

My advice is: do not be afraid to dream big.

Even if the process feels difficult, you should try. Prepare carefully, believe in yourself, and never give up.
