The Journey
My name is Saniya, and I am from Kazakhstan. I have an academic background in mechanical engineering. I decided to pursue further education in the Management Engineering field to bridge the gap between engineering, business strategy, and large-scale project management. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong interest in how complex technical systems are transformed into real-world value through structured decision-making, operations management, and strategic planning. Management Engineering offered the ideal combination of analytical rigor and business relevance to support my long-term goal of working in consulting and complex infrastructure or technology-driven projects.
Invest Your Talent in Italy Scholarship Details
I was awarded the Invest Your Talent in Italy Scholarship, funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with Politecnico di Milano. The scholarship covers tuition fees and provides a monthly stipend to support living expenses in Italy. Previously, I was also awarded the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship by the Hungarian Government, which fully supported my undergraduate studies.
These scholarships played a decisive role in making high-quality international education financially accessible and enabling me to focus on academic excellence and professional development.
Educational Background
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive Production Process Control major) from the University of Debrecen, Hungary, which I completed with honours.
My undergraduate education provided a strong foundation in:
- Engineering sciences, manufacturing systems, and quality management
- Structured problem solving
- Research methods and academic writing
This background prepared me well for the quantitative and analytical demands of Management Engineering, including systems modeling, project management, and data-driven decision making.
How Did I Prepare to Apply to Politecnico di Milano?
I began preparing approximately one year before the application deadlines. My process included:
- Researching leading European technical universities with strong engineering–business integration
- Comparing curricula, specialization tracks, and industry links
- Carefully reviewing admission criteria
I also dedicated significant effort to developing a strong statement of purpose that clearly articulated my academic background, professional goals, and motivation for choosing Politecnico di Milano and Milan, Italy.
How Did I Prepare to Apply to the Invest Your Talent in Italy Scholarship?
For scholarship applications, I focused on presenting a clear personal and professional narrative. This included:
- Defining long-term career goals

How Is My Experience at Politecnico di Milano?
My experience at Politecnico di Milano has been both academically rigorous and rewarding. The program places strong emphasis on analytical thinking, teamwork, and real-world problem solving. Working in a multicultural environment has significantly enriched my academic perspective and communication skills.
How Do You Rate Politecnico di Milano Academically and Why?
I consider Politecnico di Milano to be academically excellent due to:
- Its strong quantitative and methodological focus
- Integration of engineering and management disciplines
- Research and real-world practice-driven teaching approach
The curriculum systematically develops strategic thinking, systems analysis, and decision-making under uncertainty.
Support for International Students
PoliMi offers extensive support through:
- International student services
- Orientation programs
- Visa and residence permit assistance
- Career development and networking events
- Italian language courses
These services make the transition to life and study in Italy significantly smoother.
Language of Instruction
All courses in my Master’s program are taught in English.
Native Language Considerations
Although Italy is not an English-speaking country, not knowing Italian does not pose academic challenges since instruction and assessment are conducted in English. However, learning basic Italian is beneficial for everyday life and social integration.
What Made My Application Stand Out?
I believe my application was competitive due to:
- A strong engineering background combined with management-oriented career goals
- A clear and consistent academic narrative
- Strong intellectual curiosity and a purpose-driven willingness to pursue a career transition
What Would I Do Differently?
If I were to repeat the process, I would:
- Begin scholarship essay preparation earlier
- Apply to a wider range of funding opportunities
- Seek professional feedback sooner on application materials
Advice to Future Applicants
My main advice to prospective applicants would be:
- Start early and plan strategically
- Research programs thoroughly and tailor each application to showcase how it fits your goals
- Treat the motivation letter as a key component
- Demonstrate not only academic ability but also long-term vision and impact
- Apply to multiple scholarships simultaneously
