The Journey

Hello!

I am Sakshi Charde from Nagpur, India. I work as a research assistant at Traffic Modelling and Simulation Chair of TU Dresden, Germany. I studied Architecture at the School of Planning and Architecture Delhi and worked as an Architect in Delhi for two years. I wanted to pursue transport planning and management because it always intrigued me. Hence, I secured admission to the Transport Infrastructure Systems master’s degree at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India.

DAAD Kospie Scholarship Details

I received the DAAD KOSPIE scholarship for an exchange semester at the Chair of Traffic Modelling and Simulation at TU Dresden, Germany.

Educational Background

I scored 68% percentage in my Bachelor of Architecture degree. And although I was good at problem-solving and technical, I was not applying them as much while working as an architect. Switching the field gave me the opportunity to push my limits, and learn more things.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for German Institutions?

The scholarship applicants are required to have more than an 8.5 CGPA at the time of application. Since I did fairly well in my Master's course, my CGPA was 9.474 till the second semester.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for the DAAD Kospie Scholarship?

My Indian thesis supervisor reached out to Prof. S Travis Waller, who is well established and has similar interests as my thesis topic – Deployment and Planning of Electric Vehicles Charging Stations, to co-supervise me for my Master’s thesis.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

Having a strong CV

Having a crisp document outlining the thesis – Abstract, Aim, Objectives, Methodology, Expected Outcomes, and timeline.

What Would You Have Done Differently If You Are Going Through the Process Again?

If I were to go through the process again, I would place greater emphasis on overcoming self-doubt and not allowing fear of failure to hold me back. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that self-rejection can be more limiting than any external barrier. Sometimes, taking that initial leap of faith can lead to opportunities that redefine your entire career trajectory. I would encourage future applicants to believe in their potential and give their best effort, regardless of how uncertain the outcome may seem.

What Advice Would You Give to Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

Receiving this scholarship has truly been a transformative experience. It provided me with the invaluable opportunity to work at TU Dresden, where I was able to deepen my academic and professional engagement. This initial opportunity led to an extended collaboration with the Chair, ultimately helping me secure a position as a research assistant under the supervision of Prof. S. Travis Waller.

Beyond academics, the scholarship enabled me to travel across eight countries within the Schengen area, enriching both my personal and professional perspectives while successfully completing my studies. Since relocating to Germany, I have had the privilege of conducting research alongside a highly motivated and inspiring team of scientists. This environment has significantly enhanced my knowledge in transport modelling, allowed me to contribute to academic publications, and provided the opportunity to collaborate with leading industry partners such as NVIDIA.

To prospective applicants, I would strongly encourage you to pursue this opportunity. It not only supports your academic growth but also opens doors to exceptional international exposure and professional development.
