The Journey
My name is Nominzul, and I’m from Mongolia. My educational background spans a variety of fields, including molecular biology and food science. I’ve had a passion for science since childhood, which is why I decided to pursue a career in this field. I believe that receiving the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship to study a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology Engineering at the University of Szeged in Hungary opened the door to many opportunities for me, and I’m happy to share my brief story with you today.
Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Details
Well, it's a long story, but I’ll try to keep it brief and clear.
First of all, the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship is open to everyone and offers many benefits while supporting your academic journey. I was awarded a full scholarship for my Master’s degree at the University of Szeged, which is well known for its scientific and research excellence. The SHS covers tuition fees, insurance, and also supports daily expenses with a monthly grant.
What Is Your Educational Background?
I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, with a GPA of 4.5 out of 5. After that, I completed my Master’s degree, graduating with an outstanding GPA of 4.92 out of 5. My academic focus has always been on molecular biology, food science, and nutrition, and I’ve remained committed to research and development in these areas.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to the University of Szeged?
I began by researching universities and programs that aligned with my goals for my further studies. There were many options in my pocket when I was doing my research. However, the University of Szeged stood out for its academic reputation and focus on molecular science. I reviewed the course structure, faculty expertise, and research opportunities. I also made sure my documents (transcripts, diplomas, recommendation letters) were properly prepared and met the criteria, as needed. As a non-native English speaker, I had to take an official English exam to prove my language ability. Thus, I took an IELTS exam. My preparation method was quite straightforward:
Step 1: Sit and study,
Step 2: Repeat step 1 over and over again.
How Did You Prepare to Apply for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship?
For the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship, I closely followed the official guidelines. I wrote a clear and passionate motivation letter, explaining my academic background, career goals, and why I chose Hungary. I also submitted all required documents, including my diplomas, transcript, and passport. If you decide to send your application, you need some time to prepare for this. My advice is, check the DreamApply Stipendium Hungaricum platform and find your program and the institute. Because the scholarship requirements vary depending on the institute. Your first step would be creating an account and finding your program, then preparing the required documents and applying accordingly. That’s exactly how I did it.
What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?
I believe my strong academic record helped me demonstrate my dedication to learning. My motivation letter clearly showed how the program fits into my long-term goals of contributing to Mongolia’s food industry. I also had a solid IELTS score (Band 7), which proved my English proficiency. On top of that, I had an interview with the university professor and showed my passion and enthusiasm, and indicated why I would be a good candidate for the position.
What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?
If I had to do it again, I would start my preparation earlier, especially writing and revising my motivation letter. I also would’ve reached out to current scholarship holders or alumni for advice and tips on the academic environment and life in Hungary.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
Start your preparation early. Write a clear and personal motivation letter. Highlight your academic strengths and future goals. Prepare all required documents in advance, and don’t procrastinate. Show how your chosen program can benefit your country. Stay confident, and don’t be afraid to dream big!
What Are Your Dreams and Goals for the Future?
In the coming years, I am planning to publish several scientific papers, gain international recognition in the field of food science and contribute to food safety and molecular biology development while learning without stopping and sharing my knowledge with other people. Academically, my goal is to contribute to the scientific community and broaden my understanding of the world.
