The Journey
My name is Dr. Ousman Bajinka, and I am from The Gambia. I am a microbiologist, researcher, and educator with a passion for understanding infectious diseases, the gut-brain axis, and predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (3 PM). My journey in higher education has been deeply shaped by my commitment to addressing public health challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond. I decided to pursue a Ph.D. in Microbiology to deepen my research skills and contribute to global health solutions, particularly in respiratory virology and microbiome science.

- S. in Basic and Industrial Microbiology, Ege University, Turkey.
- S. in Biological Sciences, University of The Gambia.
My previous degrees provided a strong foundation in laboratory techniques, molecular biology, and public health research, which directly prepared me for advanced studies in microbiology and virology.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to Central South University?
- Finding Information: I used official government scholarship portals (e.g., CSC, Turkish Scholarships), university websites, and academic networks like LinkedIn and ResearchGate. I also reached out to current scholarship holders and alumni for insights.
- Standardized Tests: I took the TOEFL and GRE. I prepared using online materials, practice tests, and joining study groups. Consistent daily practice over several months was key.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Chinese Government Scholarship?
I tailored my application to highlight my research experience, publications, and clear future goals. I secured strong recommendation letters from previous supervisors and aligned my research proposal with the host institution’s expertise.
