If Purdue is on your list of desired colleges, it would be useful to know more about how selective their admission process is. Knowing a university’s acceptance rate can help you decide whether you want to apply there, and what your chances of getting in may be. In this article, we will look at the available admission data from Purdue.

Purdue University Acceptance Rate

  • Undergraduate Acceptance Rate: 53 percent
  • Graduate Acceptance Rate: 31 percent
  • Source: Purdue University

At its main campus in West Lafayette, Purdue received more than 68,000 undergraduate applications for fall 2022, of which nearly 53 percent of applicants received offers of admission. This is quite a sharp decline from the previous year, which saw an acceptance rate of nearly 70 percent. While the university received over 9,000 more applications than the previous year, it made about 4,800 fewer admission offers, which accounts for the significant drop in the acceptance rate.

Acceptance rates differed across different colleges. A big bulk of the applications were made to the College of Engineering, which had an acceptance rate of 41 percent, much lower than the average undergraduate admit rate. The College of Science also received a significant chunk of the applications and its acceptance rate of 45 percent is also lower than the average. Other colleges which received much fewer applications had a higher acceptance rate – the College of Pharmacy, for instance, with about 800 applications, had an acceptance rate of 85 percent. The only exception to this was the College of Veterinary Medicine, which is the only other college with an acceptance rate much lower than the average.

The graduate admissions too saw a decline, but a much smaller one than undergraduate admissions. Purdue offered admission to about 31 percent of the nearly 6,900 applications it received for graduate programs, which is a small drop from its 35 percent acceptance rate last year.
