Swedish Universities’ IELTS Band Requirements

International English Language Testing System or IELTS is an internationally recognized English proficiency exam that non-native English speakers are required to take to prove their level of proficiency in English. An IELTS result is denominated in bands from 1 to 9 with an increment of 0.5. Moreover, an IELTS report card is valid only for two years.

Most universities in Sweden offering degree programs in the English language require IELTS test scores. Let’s take a look at some of these universities and their IELTS band requirements.

1. Karolinska Institute

Founded in 1810, Karolinska Institute is a research-intensive medical university located in Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. The university pride itself as the best university in Sweden. It is also considered to be one of the most prestigious medical schools in the world.

The Nobel Assembly at the Karolinska Institute has been granted the right to choose Nobel Prize winner(s) in Physiology and Medicine. Karolinska Institute is renowned for its research in the fields of medicine and is the largest medical research conducting institute in Sweden.

Currently, it is home to almost 6000 students and 5000 administrative staff. Five Karolinska Institute researchers have won Nobel Prizes in the fields of medicine or physiology. The university was ranked 41st by Times Higher Education in its 2020 global university ranking.

2. Lund University

3. Uppsala University

The university pride itself to be perhaps the most influential university in Sweden, having enjoyed a strong connection with the country’s history and society. Uppsala University has consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

It was ranked 102nd by Times Higher Education in its 2020 global university ranking. The university is presently home to a whopping 45000 students, 5400 of which are international students. 4. Stockholm University

Stockholm University is a public university in Stockholm, Sweden. It was founded as a college in 1878 and was granted university status only in 1960. 5. University of Gothenburg

6. KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Founded in 1827, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology is the largest technical university in Sweden. The university is renowned for its extensive research in engineering and technology. The university comprises five schools and five campuses in Sweden.

Currently, the university is home to around 13,000 students and 4000 staff members. The university was ranked in 98th spot on the 2020 QS World University Ranking. The university offers 60 Master’s degree programs in the English language. To be enrolled at this university in Sweden, you need at least an IELTS Band Requirement of 6.5.

7. Chalmers University of Technology

The Chalmers University of Technology is a private university in Sweden. It was founded in 1829 and comprises a student body of almost 11,000 students and an administrative staff of 2500 members. The university specializes in technology, natural sciences, architecture, management, and maritime studies.
