As the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Pakistan is predominantly Muslim; the 2023 census reported that Muslims make up 96.35% of the population. The region is home to major Indus Valley Civilization sites, including the archaeological ruins of Moenjodaro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating to the beginning of the 3rd millennium BCE. The name Pakistan means “Land of the Pure” in Urdu and Persian.
Pakistan offers a culturally rich environment, and many of its public universities list lower tuition than universities in many Western study destinations. Costs still vary widely by university, program, nationality, and year. Some Pakistani universities also offer scholarships, fee remission, or financial assistance for eligible students.
