Beihang University, located in the city of Beijing, is a major public research university. The school was established in 1952 as the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics as a merger of several different universities (later changed to Beihang University in the 1990s) and is ranked by US News & World Report at the #453 spot on the list of Best Global Universities. The school is a member of the prestigious Project 211 and Project 985 groups, which are the top Chinese public universities. About 22,000 students attend Beihang University. That figure is comprised of 12,500 undergraduate students and 10,000 graduates. The school is led by roughly 3,300 academic staff (20 of which are members of the prestigious Chinese Academy of Sciences or Chinese Academy of Engineering), leading to about a 7:1 student to faculty ratio. They teach 59 undergraduate programs as well as 38 master’s degree first-level programs. In addition, there are 21 doctor degree first-level disciplines and 17 postdoc stations offered.
These programs are broken down into 27 different schools, many of which are internationally renowned. They include the School of Electronic Information Engineering, School of Cyberspace Security, Engineering Training Center, College of Continuing Education, and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences. There is one campus, located in the Haidian District of Beijing.
As one of the most highly funded schools in China, the amount dedicated to research is also extremely high. Roughly CNY¥8 billion has been put towards 8,000 different ventures in the past five years. The ventures have covered roughly 10,000 scientific and technological cooperation projects.
