The paper has 53 questions in total: 8 questions each in Parts 1, 2, and 3; 6 questions each in Parts 4 and 5; 7 questions in Part 6; and 10 questions in Part 7. A Statement of Results is issued with the overall score, individual scores, grade, and CEFR level. The overall score is the average of five individual scores: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, and Use of English.
Candidates who score from 200 to 230 receive a Certificate of Proficiency in English showing Level C2. A score of 220 to 230 is Grade A, 213 to 219 is Grade B, and 200 to 212 is Grade C.
Candidates who score from 180 to 199 receive a certificate stating that they demonstrated ability at CEFR Level C1. Candidates who score from 162 to 179 do not receive a grade, CEFR level, or certificate, but their Cambridge English Scale score is shown on the Statement of Results. Scores below 162 are not reported for this exam.
C2 Proficiency is targeted at CEFR Level C2 and also provides a reliable assessment at the level below C2, which is C1. However, universities and other organizations set their own acceptance requirements, so always check the institution’s current policy before applying.
