University of South Australia (UniSA) is a research university located in Adelaide, Australia. It was formed in 1991 by the merger of the South Australian Institute of Technology and College of Advanced Education. These two universities were founded in 1889 and in 1856 respectively.

The University of South Australia is ranked very high despite its relatively short history. It is ranked top 41st globally in QS World Rankings top 50 under 50. Also, it is ranked top 3% of all universities globally by the Times Higher Education Rankings.

This university is the largest in South Australia has 37,000 students and 3,064 full-time academic staff. Also, it has the largest international student population in South Australia with 6,000 students studying in the main campus of Adelaide and another 6,000 students studying in various campuses in Asia.

Undergraduate Scholarships

1. Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarships

Applications for this scholarship are open to all international students that are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree. They are generous in giving out this scholarship award, but it is still limited to a number of new scholarship awardees per year. The scholarship benefit allows a reduction in their student contributions and this is valid for their program duration, or up to a maximum of four years.

Graduate Scholarships

1. Research Training Program International Scholarships (RTPi)

  • Scholarship Amount: At least $28,854 stipend per year, tuition waiver

The Australian Government is funding this scholarship and it is available for all international students. The selection criteria of scholarship awardees include academic merit and research potential. The total stipend is offered for a maximum of 2 years for Master’s students, and a maximum of 3 years for PhD students. This is also the same for the tuition fee waiver.

2. Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarships

This scholarship is the same as the Vice Chancellor’s scholarship mentioned above. Aside for undergraduates, those who are taking up a Master’s degree are welcome to apply.

3. International Research Tuition Scholarships (IRTS)

The IRTS is open to all international students and the eligibility criteria include academic merit, research capability, and those who are in need of support through a living stipend by external funding. For Master’s students, the total fee waiver has a maximum of 2 years, while the maximum for PhD students is 4 years.

How to Apply

Prospective international students have a separate application that is different than those used by domestic students. Students will need to submit an application online, and the University of South Australia does not charge application fees to international students.
