The Journey

I am Vee Dayandayan, a Filipino graduate student completing my Master's in International Development at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts this Spring 2025. Before graduate school, I worked as a Development Management Officer at the Philippine Department of Agriculture, where I developed, managed, and coordinated projects supporting local rice farmers. My growing interest in international project management and policy led me to pursue advanced studies to strengthen my expertise in both local and international policy analysis.

Scholarship Details

In 2023, I was awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, enabling me to pursue academic and professional development in the United States. The grant comprehensively covered my travel, tuition, and living expenses, allowing me to concentrate fully on my learning and professional objectives.

Educational Background

I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Development Communication at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, gaining a strong foundation in social sciences and communication. My professional experience in project management and the policy process highlighted the need for advanced skills to enhance my job performance. This background, coupled with my academic achievements, fueled my aspiration to work internationally on issues intersecting climate, gender, and food security.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for Clark University and the Fulbright Scholarship?

To prepare for my graduate application, I researched institutions that offered the greatest benefits. I focused on crafting strong personal statements and carefully selecting recommenders who knew my work ethic and abilities. I took both the TOEFL and GRE, and although I was confident in my English speaking and writing skills, I still dedicated time—despite working full-time—to study and practice. I often listened to English videos online to expand my vocabulary and watched content that explained the TOEFL and GRE sections.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

I believe my application stood out because I clearly outlined my goals, explained how the opportunity would advance my career, and demonstrated that I have the skills to excel in the field.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Are Going Through the Process Again?

I would have studied more for the standardized tests to achieve higher scores.

What Advice Would You Give for Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

Believe in yourself! If this has been your dream for a while, everything you've done so far has helped shape you into a strong applicant. Reflect on why you want to pursue this and keep that reason in mind throughout the application process—and beyond, as you complete your degree.
