The Journey
My name is Sibghatullah Karimi, and I am from Afghanistan. I spent a significant part of my life as an Afghan refugee in Pakistan, where I pursued my early and higher education. Despite the challenges associated with displacement, I remained committed to my academic goals and worked consistently to achieve excellence.
I hold a strong academic background in Software Engineering, having completed my Bachelor’s degree from Abbottabad University of Science and Technology, where I graduated with a Gold Medal, recognizing my outstanding academic performance.
Driven by a passion for data-driven decision-making and intelligent systems, I pursued a Master’s degree in Data Science and Applied Analytics at the University of Lincoln, where I graduated with Distinction. My academic journey reflects my deep interest in leveraging data science to solve real-world problems and contribute to technological advancement.
I am now aspiring to pursue a PhD, with the goal of contributing to research in data science and Ai developing innovative solutions that can benefit society, particularly in underrepresented and developing communities.

I was awarded this scholarship during my undergraduate studies at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology (AUST). The DAFI scholarship provided comprehensive financial support, including tuition fees, living expenses, and academic resources. It is specifically designed to support talented refugee students in accessing higher education and building a better future.
Eligibility Requirements: Academic merit (minimum 65% in prior exams), refugee status (valid POR/UNHCR card), and a strong motivation to contribute to community development.

I was selected as a recipient of the DAAD Empower Future Female Afghan Leaders (EFFAL) Scholarship, a prestigious programme jointly initiated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), originally designed to empower Afghan women who have been denied access to higher education in their home country. Due to an insufficient number of female applicants, the scholarship was subsequently opened to both men and women, allowing me the opportunity to apply and compete for this award. The scholarship covers university tuition fees, a monthly stipend, a book allowance, and a living allowance, enabling scholars to focus fully on their academic pursuits. The application process was conducted through the official DAAD Scholarship Portal (https://www2.daad.de/deutschland/stipendium/datenbank/en/21148-scholarship-database/), where candidates submitted their applications for initial consideration. Following the application stage, candidates were shortlisted based on their academic achievements and merit. What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?
