The Journey
My name is Sajith, and I’m from Sri Lanka. I’m currently pursuing my MSc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Debrecen in Hungary through the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship, offered by the Tempus Public Foundation.
Educational Background
I completed my bachelor’s degree in a newly introduced program—Bachelor of Engineering Technology in Mechanical Engineering Technology—in English, graduating with a Second-Class Upper Division with 3.43 out of 4 GPA. From the start of my undergraduate studies, I was determined to pursue a master’s degree, even though our degree was not initially recognized for MSc programs. I worked hard to overcome that barrier, aiming to inspire my fellow students to pursue higher education. I had two years of work experience before applying, which, while not required, strengthened my profile.
Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship
I discovered the scholarship opportunity through the Sri Lankan government’s official website and decided to apply. The scholarship is fully funded, covering tuition fees, living expenses, accommodation, and health insurance, making it an incredible opportunity for international students.
How did you apply for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship?
Since my bachelor's was taught in English, I was exempted from submitting IELTS scores. The application process included submitting a CV and a motivation letter, along with academic documents. After a technical evaluation in Hungary, the final selection was made by the Sri Lankan government as the sending partner. I’m proud to have broken new ground for students from my background and to show that with determination and vision, even the most uncertain paths can lead to success.
