My name is Saed Mohamoud Muhumed (Saed Faratol), and I am originally from Somaliland. I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Tropical Agriculture. I decided to pursue further education in this field because I am passionate about finding sustainable solutions to improve food security and resilience in farming communities affected by climate change. Through my research, I aim to contribute valuable knowledge that supports policymakers, farmers, and development programs in adapting to changing climatic conditions.

Taiwan ICDF Scholarship Details

I was awarded the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship 2025 to support my PhD studies at National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST). The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses, and research costs. The scholarship covers airfare (round-trip), housing, tuition, credit fees, insurance, textbook costs, and a monthly allowance.

The Taiwan ICDF Scholarship was the only scholarship I was offered for my PhD program.

Educational Background

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Hargeisa, graduating with a GPA of 3.94. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a strong foundation in crop production, soil science, and environmental management, which sparked my interest in sustainable agriculture.

I later pursued a Master’s degree in Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability at Amoud University, where I graduated with a GPA of 3.82. My master’s research focused on the relationship between climate variability and agricultural productivity.

I also learned about opportunities from colleagues who had previously studied abroad. Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?

Yes, I took the Online English Test exam as part of my PhD admission requirements. To prepare my listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.

How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship?

I carefully reviewed the eligibility requirements and selection criteria on the official website. I then gathered all the necessary documents, including academic transcripts, recommendation letters, a research proposal, and a motivation letter.

Would Potential Students Have Any Problems Academically, Not Knowing Mandarin?

Yes, students should learn the Mandarin language for communication.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?

I believe my application was distinguished by the relevance and impact of my research focus, which tackles real-world issues surrounding climate variability and agricultural productivity in Somaliland. My solid academic background, along with prior research experience and a clear motivation to support sustainable development, further enhanced my application.

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
