The Journey
I am Rutuja from India. Achieving the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) was a dream I held close to my heart. It wasn’t an easy road; in fact, this was my second attempt. After facing rejection in my first try, I was disappointed but not discouraged. I knew I had to come back stronger, more prepared, and more focused.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Global Korea Scholarship?
In my second application, I took a different approach. I poured my energy into refining my personal statement and study plan, ensuring they truly reflected my passion, goals, and commitment. I asked myself what makes me stand out, and I made sure those qualities came through in every sentence. I also worked hard to highlight my major-related skills and academic background, aligning them with Korea's strengths in my field.
What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?
What made the difference this time was clarity of purpose. I wasn't just applying for a scholarship—I was presenting a vision of how I could grow academically in Korea and contribute globally in return. I researched universities, tailored my documents, and stayed authentic throughout.
What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?
Looking back, I’m grateful for the rejection. It pushed me to grow and reassess my strengths. And now, as a GKS awardee, I feel more prepared and motivated than ever to begin this new chapter.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
To those who are still on the journey, don’t give up. Your story is still unfolding. Learn from every experience and keep believing in your potential. Sometimes, a second try is all it takes.
