Hi! My name is Mohammad Al-Amin, a civil engineering graduate from Bangladesh. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Civil and Architectural Engineering at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden. Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals Details

I was awarded the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals in 2024, an opportunity that has been truly life-changing. The scholarship covers the full tuition fee, which is paid directly by the Swedish Institute to the university each semester, and offers a monthly allowance of SEK 12,000 to support living expenses throughout the study period. In addition, scholars receive a one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000 for relocation to Sweden. Beyond financial support, the scholarship offers access to the SI Network for Global Professionals, a valuable platform that enables scholars to grow professionally, build international networks, and engage with like-minded leaders. After completing the scholarship period, scholars also become members of the Sweden Alumni Network, creating long-term opportunities for continued networking, collaboration, and professional development. Being selected as an SI scholar has provided me with academic freedom, international exposure, and the confidence to grow both professionally and personally.

Were You Offered any Other Scholarships?

In addition to the Swedish Institute Scholarship, I was also awarded an Academic Excellence Award from Western Michigan University for the Fall 2024 intake. While this award recognized my academic performance, it covered only the tuition fees and did not include support for living expenses. Furthermore, when considering my options, the strong global ranking and academic reputation of KTH Royal Institute of Technology played an important role in my decision. Taking into account the comprehensive financial support, academic excellence, and long-term professional opportunities, I ultimately chose the Swedish Institute Scholarship to pursue my studies at KTH.

Educational Background

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with honors, where I built a strong academic foundation in structural analysis and reinforced concrete and steel structures. Alongside my studies, I actively engaged in technical projects and research-oriented activities, which helped strengthen my analytical and problem-solving skills. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I published a research article, which further strengthened my interest in research and advanced studies. Following graduation, I gained nearly five years of professional experience working as a Structural and BIM Engineer, which played a vital role in shaping my practical understanding of engineering systems and project execution.

To prepare for applying to institutions, I carefully researched and applied to multiple universities across several countries that aligned with my academic interests and long-term career goals. Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?

To meet the English language requirement, I took the IELTS Academic test. I prepared through consistent practice using official preparation materials and by improving my academic writing, listening, and speaking skills over time. Achieving the required score was a crucial step that enabled me to proceed confidently with both my university and scholarship applications.
