The Journey

My name is Kenneth Mundu from Uganda, and I am currently the President of the Rotaract Club of Kyambogo.

I chose to pursue further education because I am deeply committed to transforming my community and contributing to meaningful societal change. Advancing my studies has also been essential in strengthening my skills, broadening my perspective, and positioning myself to achieve my long-term goal of becoming an influential political analyst.

Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SI) Details

I was awarded the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SI), which enabled me to pursue my studies at Malmö University in Sweden. Through this scholarship, I received a monthly stipend of 11,000 SEK, which supported my academic journey and living expenses during my studies.

Educational Background

I am a professional political analyst and politician, with strong academic roots from Kyambogo University in Kampala with Bachelors Degree in Development Studies and the Law Development Centre (LDC) in Kampala with a Diploma in Law. I hold a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Malmo-Sweden, specializing in Global Politics and Societal Change.

My educational background has strongly prepared me to pursue opportunities in my chosen fields. Studying Development Studies, with a specialization in Local community development, equipped me with critical analytical skills, a deep understanding of governance systems, and the ability to interpret complex political dynamics. My training at Kyambogo University, the Law Development Centre, and later at Malmö University exposed me to diverse academic environments, strengthened my research abilities, and enhanced my capacity for strategic thinking.

These experiences have positioned me well to apply for roles in political analysis, governance, leadership, and policymaking, as they provided both the theoretical foundation and practical competencies required to thrive in these fields.

How Did You Prepare to Apply to Institutions?

To prepare for my applications, I kept a close and constant eye on the programme application window, which typically opens around mid-October. I ensured that all my academic documents were prepared, certified, and ready for submission. I applied through the Swedish Higher Education central application system, known as University Admissions, which allows applicants to select up to four different master’s programmes across various Swedish universities. As part of the process, I also paid the 900 SEK admission fee to complete my application.

How Did You Find Information About Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SI) and Malmö University?

I found information about scholarships and institutions through consistent online research and by regularly visiting official websites. I closely followed the Swedish Institute (SI) website, the University Admissions portal, and the individual university pages to stay updated on available programmes, requirements, and scholarship opportunities. I also relied on student forums, alumni networks, and international education platforms that share reliable information about studying in Sweden. This helped me clearly understand the application timelines, eligibility criteria, and the documents needed for both admissions and scholarships.

Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?

I did not take any standardized tests as part of my application. Sweden has one of the most straightforward and applicant-friendly scholarship processes, and the Swedish institutions are known for being very welcoming and supportive. Since English is an official language of instruction in my country, I was exempted from taking additional language proficiency tests. This made the application process even smoother and more accessible.

How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SI)?

To prepare for the scholarship application, I focused on meeting the key requirements, especially the 3,000 hours of work experience, which also includes voluntary service. My volunteering as a Project Lead at the Rotaract Club of Kyambogo played a significant role in helping me meet this requirement, especially since I was between jobs at the time.

The scholarship also places strong emphasis on leadership experience. Fortunately, the timing was ideal because I had just contested for the position of District Councillor for Busedde sub-county in Jinja District. Although I was not successful in the election, the experience gave me valuable political leadership exposure, which I used to strengthen my application. The Swedish Institute Scholarship values not only political leadership but also organizational leadership, such as project management, school leadership, or heading community initiatives. All these forms of leadership qualify
