The Journey

I’m Gita Poudel, currently pursuing my professional journey as a Director of Human Capital and Compliance at Maganti IT Resources LLC. My journey began in Nepal, a country renowned for its breathtaking Himalayan landscapes, including Mount Everest, rich cultural and religious heritage, and vibrant traditions. It is celebrated for its diverse ecosystems, warm hospitality, and opportunities for adventure, from trekking to wildlife exploration. Growing up in such a setting instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature, culture, and resilience, where I completed my undergraduate studies in Kathmandu. While waiting for my results, I immersed myself in community volunteer work, collaborating with students from around the world. It was during this time, working alongside a group of Korean volunteers through Service for Peace Nepal, that I discovered not just a fascination for their culture, but a curiosity that would shape the next chapter of my life.

Inspired by this experience, I traveled to South Korea to explore its culture firsthand. I enrolled in a Korean language program at Yonsei University. Each day, I passed by Ewha Womans University, South Korea’s most prestigious and historically significant institution, known for its strong focus on women’s education and empowerment, dreaming of what it would be like to study there.

I took a leap of faith, driven by curiosity and a dream I had nurtured quietly for months. I began researching scholarship opportunities at Ewha Womans University, diving into every detail of the application process, learning about the programs, requirements, and deadlines. Each step required patience, persistence, and careful preparation, from gathering documents to crafting essays that reflected not just my academic abilities but my personal journey and aspirations. Despite the uncertainty and the challenge of stepping into a completely new system and culture, I stayed focused and determined. After weeks of anticipation and hope, my efforts were rewarded. I was ultimately accepted into Ewha. That moment was more than just an admission letter; it was the realization that taking risks, following my curiosity, and committing fully to a dream could truly open doors to transformative opportunities. Joining Ewha was transformative; it challenged me, inspired me, and opened doors to a world of learning, cultural exchange, and personal growth.

These experiences taught me the importance of resilience, curiosity, and seizing opportunities. Today, I channel these lessons into my work, leveraging my international education and diverse experiences to drive human capital and compliance initiatives. I strive to build organizations where people feel valued, processes are efficient, and growth is both strategic and meaningful. My journey has been about exploring, learning, and connecting, and I bring that same passion and purpose to every role I undertake.
I am deeply thankful to my professors at Ewha Womans University for their guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support throughout my journey. Their encouragement and insight not only enriched my academic experience but also inspired me to grow personally and professionally, helping me navigate challenges and seize opportunities with confidence.

I approached my application to Ewha Womans University with purpose and careful planning after getting to know about the EGPP scholarship program. I began by extensively researching the English-taught graduate programs to identify those that best aligned with my academic aspirations and career goals. I then thoroughly reviewed the admission guidelines, ensuring every requirement was clearly understood. Since I was already in South Korea, I took the opportunity to visit the admissions office multiple times, seeking guidance and clarification on any questions I had. These visits not only helped me navigate the application process more confidently but also allowed me to engage directly with the staff, gaining deeper insight into the university’s expectations and culture. Each interaction reinforced my determination and prepared me to submit a strong, well-informed application.

With precision, I prepared my transcripts, crafted a personal statement that reflected both my journey and ambitions, and secured strong recommendation letters to demonstrate my potential. This deliberate, step-by-step preparation not only strengthened my application but also instilled in me confidence, clarity, and a deep sense of purpose, enabling me to present my strongest self and take a decisive step toward a transformative educational journey.

The professors are exceptionally supportive, offering guidance and mentorship at every step, while the academic environment challenges me to think critically, push my boundaries, and strive for excellence. The campus itself is not only beautiful but also welcoming, creating an atmosphere where learning and personal growth flourish. One of the most rewarding aspects has been being part of a vibrant international community, where I have had the opportunity to make friends from diverse countries and cultures. These connections have enriched my perspective, broadened my worldview, and allowed me to learn as much outside the classroom as I do within it. I have fully embraced this opportunity, participating actively in discussions, cultural exchanges, and collaborative projects, making the most of every experience Ewha has to offer.

How Does Ewha Womans University Support International Students?

Ewha Womans University offers outstanding support for international students, ensuring a smooth and enriching transition into campus life. Through comprehensive orientation programs, personalized counseling services, language classes, and a wide range of student clubs, the university creates an environment where students feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to thrive. The International Office is exceptionally proactive and approachable, guiding students through essential administrative processes such as visas, housing, and academic registration with efficiency and care. This level of support not only eases the challenges of studying abroad but also fosters a sense of belonging, enabling students to focus on learning, personal growth, and fully embracing the transformative opportunities Ewha provides.

Are Your Classes Conducted in English or Korean?

Courses, particularly those in graduate programs tailored for international students, are conducted in English, providing a globally accessible academic experience. At the same time, there are excellent opportunities to enroll in Korean-language courses for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the language and culture.

Would Potential Students Have Any Problems Academically, Not Knowing Korean?

Academically, no. Students can succeed without knowing Korean since many graduate programs are fully taught in English. However, learning Korean is very helpful for daily life in Seoul and for connecting with local communities.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

I believe my application stood out because it reflected not only my strong academic performance but also my commitment to leadership and community engagement. I shared my genuine motivation for pursuing studies in South Korea and articulated my long-term career goals, demonstrating a clear vision for the impact I aspire to make. I also highlighted how studying at Ewha Womans University would equip me with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective needed to contribute meaningfully not just to my home country, but to the international community as well. By presenting a narrative that combined achievement, purpose, and aspiration, I aimed to convey my readiness to embrace the opportunities and responsibilities that come with being part of Ewha’s vibrant global community.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?

The application process I followed was smooth, but if I were to do it again, I would begin preparations even earlier, particularly for standardized tests and for crafting a version of my application specifically tailored to highlight how I align with Ewha Womans University’s values and programs.
