The Journey
My name is Fuh Geogette Lumnwi, a dedicated professional from Cameroon with a strong background in social development and finance. After completing my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Yaoundé II, I began my career as a social worker for a local NGO. My work focused on supporting vulnerable populations, particularly women, in improving their livelihoods. Driven by a desire to deepen my impact, I pursued and successfully completed a specialized MA in Social Protection from Bonn-Rhein Sieg University of Applied Sciences, allowing me to bridge the gap between financial management and social welfare
Educational Background
My academic journey began at the University of Yaoundé II, where I earned a Bachelor's in Business Administration and a Master's in Applied Economics with GPAs of 2.6/4 and 2.8/4, respectively. Because the MA in Social Protection required a strong background in economics or related fields, having already completed a Master's in Economics, I think, gave me an upper hand.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences?
No particular form of preparation, I saw the academic opportunity and thought of my desire for a specialised course in line with what I was actually doing on the field, and I told myself, “Why not go for this?”
What Drew You to Choose Germany to Pursue Your Degree?
I did not really choose the country; it just happened that Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University is in Germany, and since I had to study at that university, I had to move to Germany
What Were Some of the Challenges You Faced as an International Student, Particularly Regarding Living Costs or Part-time Work Opportunities?
The cost of living in Germany was relatively affordable, but for fluctuating heating and electricity costs, leading to high bills. As concerns part-time work opportunities, there are always little jobs that students can do, but there were challenges like the restriction on students to the 20-hour rule, language barrier, and academic load, making it sometimes difficult to navigate through
Looking Back, Would You Recommend Studying in Germany for International Students Seeking Affordable Higher Education? Why or Why Not?
Yes, I recommend Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University any day, any time. The staff are supportive and friendly, the environment is welcoming, the lecturers are true professionals, and it offers a rich experience of cultural diversity through its international student body
How is (was) Your Experience at the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences?
The learning environment was quite accommodating, coupled with the fact that there were many other international students, I loved the diversity
