My name is Faiza Qadeer, and I’m from Chitral, Pakistan. I come from an academic background in Agriculture, specifically Plant Pathology, and I am currently pursuing a fully funded PhD in Italy. I was selected for a fully funded PhD scholarship at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Italy) under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) COFUND – FutureData4EU project.
The scholarship covers my tuition, living expenses, mobility allowance, and research costs, allowing me to focus fully on my research without financial stress.

Educational Background

I completed both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Agriculture (Plant Pathology) from The University of Agriculture Peshawar, graduating with a GPA of 3.92/4.00 in both programs. Throughout my studies, I was actively involved in research projects, laboratory work, and scientific writing. These experiences helped me build a strong foundation in microbiology, molecular biology, and experimental research, which later played a key role in preparing me for a PhD.

I focused on opportunities where my background and research interests genuinely matched the project goals rather than applying randomly.

Regarding standardized tests, I did not take exams like the GRE or GMAT. My application was mainly assessed based on my academic record, research experience, and interview performance. My previous education and research work were already conducted in English, which demonstrated my language proficiency.

I made sure my application clearly reflected who I am as a researcher. I highlighted my academic journey, research experience, publications, and motivation for pursuing this specific project. How is (was) Your Experience at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore?

My experience so far has been very positive. The environment is international and research-focused, and I have access to excellent laboratory facilities and supportive supervisors.

Are Your Classes Conducted in English or Italian?

The PhD program is conducted entirely in English.

Would Potential Students Have Any Problems Academically Not Knowing the Native Language of the Country
Academically, language is not a barrier since all coursework and research activities are in English. However, learning basic Italian is helpful for everyday life outside the university.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

I believe my application stood out because of my consistent academic performance, hands-on research experience, and a clear alignment between my background and the PhD project. I also made sure to communicate my motivation honestly and confidently during the interview.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?

If I were to go through the process again, I would start even earlier and reach out to potential supervisors sooner to discuss research ideas and expectations.

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

My advice would be to start early, research thoroughly, and apply strategically. Focus on opportunities that truly match your background, prepare well for interviews, and don’t lose confidence if you face rejections along the way. Persistence really matters.
