The Journey

I still remember the moment I left home for the first time.

A suitcase in one hand, uncertainty in the other.

I didn’t know exactly where this journey would take me, but I knew one thing: I wanted to understand life deeply enough to one day help heal it.

I come from Bangladesh. My academic journey has taken me across countries, from India to Japan, each step shaped by courage, curiosity, and quiet persistence.

🎓 Where It All Began

My journey started in India, where I pursued my Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences at DIPSAR, University of Delhi, under the ICCR Scholarship.

That experience was more than an education—it was my first lesson in independence. It taught me how to adapt, how to grow, and how to see myself beyond borders.

🌸 A New Chapter in Japan

From India, my path led me to Japan.

At Shimane University, supported by the Otsuka Foundation Scholarship, I began my Master’s in Biomedical Sciences. This is where science became real for me—not just something in books, but something alive in front of me.

I worked with:

  • Cell culture
  • Cell viability assays
  • Drug efficacy testing

I learned patience—because cells don’t always behave the way you expect. And I learned humility—because science constantly reminds you how much you don’t know.

Today, I am a PhD researcher at Osaka University under the MEXT Scholarship, working in histology and morphology. My work now involves:

  • Microtomy
  • Tissue staining
  • Histological observation

I spend hours studying structures invisible to the naked eye—trying to understand how life is organized at its most fundamental level.

And yet, my dream continues to grow—toward immunology, regenerative medicine, and iPS cell research that can directly impact human health.

💰 Scholarship Journey

Each stage of my journey was supported by a different scholarship:

ICCR Scholarship (India) – Fully funded undergraduate studies

Otsuka Foundation Scholarship (Japan) – Master’s degree

MEXT Scholarship (Japan) – Fully funded PhD

These were not just financial supports—they were moments where someone, somewhere, believed in my potential.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for the MEXT Scholarship?

🧭 The Real Application Process (What I Actually Did)

Behind every scholarship, there were unseen efforts.

  1. Researching Universities & Labs

I didn’t apply randomly. I:

  • Explored university websites
  • Read professors’ research papers
  • Matched my interests with their work

💡 Real insight: For Japan, choosing the right lab is just as important as choosing the university.

  1. Contacting Professors

One of the most difficult steps was sending emails to professors.

I:

  • Introduced myself
  • Shared my CV
  • Explained my research interest
  • Most didn’t reply.

But a few did—and those few responses changed everything.

  1. Preparing Documents

I spent a lot of time refining:

  • Statement of Purpose (SOP)
  • Research Proposal (especially for MEXT)
  • CV
  • Recommendation letters

💡 Real truth: I rewrote my SOP many times. The final version was not perfect—but it was honest and clear.

  1. Scholarship-Specific Reality
  • ICCR Scholarship
  • Applied through the government portal
  • Based mainly on academic merit
  • Otsuka Foundation Scholarship
  • Applied after entering university in Japan
  • Required strong academic performance
  • Included recommendation and evaluation

MEXT Scholarship (PhD)

This was the most detailed process:

  1.  Strong research proposal was essential
  2.  Clear future vision was required
  3.  Interview focused on:
      Motivation
      Long-term goals
      Research understanding

At first, I didn’t have perfect answers—but I learned by trying.

  1. Interviews

I prepared by:

  •  Practicing how to explain my research simply
  • Reviewing my previous work
  • Being honest about what I knew—and what I didn’t

💡 Important: You don’t need to know everything. You need to show a willingness to learn.

Educational Background

  •  Bachelor’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences – India
  •  Master’s in Biomedical Sciences – Japan (Otsuka Scholar)
  •  PhD in Biological Sciences – Japan (MEXT Scholar)

Each stage was built on the previous one, step by step, without shortcuts.

How Is (was) Your Experience at Osaka University?

🌙 Life in Japan – The Reality Behind the Dream

Living in Japan has been both beautiful and challenging.

There were days I felt:

  •  Alone
  • Lost in language
  • Far from home
  • But there were also moments I will never forget:
  • Quiet nights in the lab
  • Walking under unfamiliar skies
  • Breaking my fast during Ramadan, far from home—yet feeling deeply connected

Those moments taught me something powerful:

Strength doesn’t always look loud—it can be quiet and steady.

🏫 Academic & Work Experience

  •  Advanced research facilities
  • Structured academic environment
  • Supportive mentors

I also worked as:

  •  Teaching Assistant
  • Multilingual staff

These experiences helped me grow not just as a researcher, but as a person who can support others.

Are Your Classes Conducted in English or Japanese?

🗣️ Language Reality

Academics → English is sufficient

Daily life → Basic Japanese is very helpful

💡 Advice: Start learning Japanese early—it will make your life much easier.

  • Believe in myself earlier

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

💡 Advice for Future Applicants (From Experience)

If you are waiting to feel “ready,” you may wait forever.

  • Start anyway.
  • Apply even if you feel unsure
  • Email professors—even if you’re afraid
  • Focus on your story, not just your grades
  • Build real skills, not just certificates

Most importantly:

Rejections are not the end—they are part of the journey.

What Did You Pursue After the Scholarship? (Work, Further Study, Research or Something Else?)

🌱 Looking Forward

My journey is still unfolding. I aim to move into iPS cell-based immunology research and contribute to global healthcare through science—beyond borders, beyond limitations.

🌟 A Final Thought

Sometimes, the biggest step in your life begins quietly—with one application, one email, one decision to try. And one day, you look back and realize that a small step changed everything.
