The Journey


I am Emmanuel Seun, a Nigerian Biologist with a background in Microbiology and Infection Biology and Control. I focused on microbiology because of my desire to contribute to the reduction of the infectious disease burden in Tropical Africa. My current research focuses on one health.

DAAD Scholarship Details

I received the DAAD funding together with 14 other students as a pioneer cohort of the infectious biology and control master's program, University of Tuebingen, Germany, held in collaboration with partners in Central Africa, including CERMEL and CAIDERA. The full funding covers mobility, tuition, and a monthly stipend.

Were You Offered Any Other Scholarships?

I got a partial scholarship (one semester) during my bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in Nigeria. The scholarship was offered by the AAUA Alumni Association for winner and runners-up in the essay and debate competition.

Educational Background

I had a 4.81/5.0 GPA for my Bachelor’s degree. A good theoretical and practical foundation is very helpful for postgraduate applications.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for the DAAD Scholarship?

The scholarship was integral to the MSc program as it is a special program.

How is Your Experience at the University of Tübingen?

The course was held in the Republic of Gabon (17 months). The MSc thesis was carried out in different research institutions in Africa and Europe. I had my MSc thesis at FCRM Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.

How Do You Rate the University of Tübingen Academically?

The University of Tuebingen is one of the top 11 best universities in Germany and one of the best 200 schools globally

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

honesty and genuine curiosity for research. I also have had volunteering experience.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?

I came across the call for applications late. It is better to prepare ahead to put in a very strong application.

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

My MSc program is unique; it is held outside of Germany and requires B2 English and A2 French proficiency.
