Master’s Real Estate Student Amos Prince Kastigu from Malawi Shares His Journey of Studying at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

My name is Amos Prince Kastigu, and I come from Malawi, often referred to as the Warm Heart of Africa. I am a real estate professional with an academic background in Land Economy, having obtained a Bachelor’s degree with specialization in property valuation and management.

Following my undergraduate studies, I began my professional career in the private sector, where I worked in property management. I later joined the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences as an Assistant Lecturer, marking the beginning of my academic career.

Driven by the desire to strengthen my expertise in both construction and real estate, I pursued a Master of Science in Real Estate and Construction Management at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. I was particularly attracted to the programme because of its integrated approach to construction and real estate, as well as its strong emphasis on sustainability within the built environment.

Upon completion of my master’s studies, I returned to MUBAS, where I currently serve as a full-time lecturer in Real Estate and Quantity Surveying. In addition to my academic responsibilities, I also practice as a real estate consultant with Proland Property Consultants.

Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals Details

I was awarded the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals, which enabled me to pursue my studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. This scholarship was granted in recognition of academic merit, leadership potential, and professional commitment to contributing to sustainable development in my home country.

Educational Background 

In my Bachelor of Science studies, I specialized in Land Economy with a major in Property Valuation and Management. I graduated with strong credit, attaining an overall score of 74%. This academic background provided me with a solid foundation in real estate principles and prepared me for the intensive learning environment at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, making me a strong candidate for the master’s programme I pursued.

My experience was above the moon. KTH is one of the best institutions globally. The campus is so friendly for all cultures include black like me. I had the most amazing educational experience ever.

How Do You Rate KTH Royal Institute of Technology Academically and Why?

I give KTH 10/10. During the studies, I got an opportunity to travel to other campus outside sweden. So I could relate the experiences.

Although it is difficult to state exactly what made my application stand out, I believe one important factor is the ability to present a clear future vision and convincingly demonstrate how the education pursued will contribute to the social and economic development of one’s country.

I would encourage applicants to attend all webinars organized by the university and the scholarship provider, as these sessions are highly insightful and provide valuable guidance on both the application process and programme expectations.
