My name is Halima Bellahcene, living in Algeria. I graduated in 2009 as a computer science engineer. I had the chance to continue my studies and get a Master's degree in ICT Techno Policy from South Korea, Soongsil University. As a public officer, obtaining this kind of scholarship was useful for me to improve my career and exchange experiences and knowledge with other people around the world.
KOICA Scholarship Details
I received the scholarship within the framework of cooperation between Algeria and South Korea; the scholarship was fully funded by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The benefits include a range of advantages: airfare, monthly allowance, full tuition coverage, extracurricular activities, accommodation, and scholarship completion grants.
Educational Background
The KOICA Scholarship is specifically directed to people working in public and governmental institutions. The scholarship does not require a high GPA, and the crucial criteria to win the scholarship are having a diploma (Bachelor's or Master's degree) and English language proficiency because the study is conducted in English.
How Did You Prepare to Apply to Soongsil University?
The first step of preparation to apply for the KOICA scholarship was submitting all required documents (diploma, medical reports,…) to the head institution. After that, I was invited to take the first test with the KOICA office in Algeria. After the selection of koica office, I took another test with the university, and it was the last step for the final selection of winner participants.
How Did You Find Information About KOICA Scholarship and Soongsil University?
KOICA is an international cooperation program. I got the information about the scholarship from my work.
Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?
The KOICA program did not require proof of English language proficiency, but participants should have at least B2, and having an English certificate will increase the chance of getting the scholarship.
How is Your Experience at Soongsil University?
I spent 1 year and 5 months in South Korea, at Soongsil University, and it was a wonderful experience not only in the institution, but also with the professors are very helpful and friendly. I discovered the beauty of this country, the development, the culture, the history, the Korean language, the discipline, and the kindness of Korean people.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
For everyone who wants to get a KOICA scholarship or other scholarships, the secret is to be confident in yourself, follow your dream, and study languages, especially the English language. English will open opportunities to you that you never expected.
