Universities have always worked to ensure that students have the language and academic abilities to succeed in and complete their degrees. Universities often require international students to take a language proficiency test before applying, especially when programs have high expectations for English proficiency. Test requirements vary by university, program, and level of study. Typically, fields like law, medicine, or an MBA may demand a higher level of English proficiency from applicants. Depending on the institution, applicants may be asked to submit globally recognized English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Cambridge English Advanced.
The TOEFL iBT is a widely accepted English proficiency test that measures academic reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. If you dream of pursuing your studies in Denmark, checking each university’s current TOEFL requirement is important, especially because TOEFL iBT introduced a new 1–6 score scale in 2026.
