1. University of Toronto

The University of Toronto is one of Canada’s most prestigious and best-known universities. It is a public research institution funded by the state and a world leader in inventions, start-ups, licenses, and options based on research. It is located at Queen’s Park in Toronto, Ontario, at the center of a vibrant and diverse community.

More than 700 undergraduate programs in various disciplines, such as the humanities and social sciences, physical and mathematical sciences, computer sciences, and engineering, and more than 300 postgraduate programs, are available for international students. The language requirement for admission into the university is a minimum TOEFL score of 89, with 22 for the writing section. A discretionary range of 89-99 with 22 for writing may also be accepted.

2. University of Alberta

The University of Alberta is one of the oldest universities in Canada, established in 1908. It is ranked in the top five universities in the country and the top 120 worldwide. It prides itself on offering a rich and meaningful experience on top of high-quality educational standards.

With over 700 university programs, the most popular selections are nursing, engineering, chemistry, and agriculture science. To get into these programs, aspiring undergraduate and graduate students must present a TOEFL score of at least 90, with at least 21 in all skill sections.

3. University of Calgary

The University of Calgary is a public research school in the heartland of Alberta. It is home to a multidisciplinary community of academicians and students who pursue excellence in education to make a positive change in the world. It offers various degrees across business, humanities, history, medical sciences, and technology disciplines.

To be admitted, aspiring students must present a TOEFL score of at least 70, with a minimum score of 2o in the writing test for most undergraduate programs. On the other hand, getting a score of 86, without having any section scored below 2, is a minimum requirement in graduate programs. However, note that some do require a higher score than stated previously, so students should check their chosen program’s department for more information.

4. University of Ottawa

The University of Ottawa is a public research school in the Canadian capital. Programs are taught in the country’s co-official languages, English and French. It is noted as the largest bilingual institutions in the world and is also one of Canada’s oldest universities, having been established in 1848.

Various graduate and undergraduate programs across the arts, engineering, social sciences, health sciences, education, law, management, medicine, and more are available for international students. To be admitted into an undergraduate program, a TOEFL score of 86 and above is required, with at least 22 for the writing section.

5. University of Victoria

The University of Victoria is one of the foremost Canadian public research-intensive universities. Established in 1903, it has built more than a hundred years of recognition as a leading force in research, teaching, and community engagement. This higher education provider offers various undergraduate and graduate programs, including business, education, fine arts, and science. A minimum TOEFL score of 90 is required for both levels, with at least 20 for each skill section.

6. Concordia University

This Canadian institution offers a very diverse range of programs for graduate and undergraduate studies, including aerospace engineering, biochemistry, business studies, entrepreneurship, history, political science, and more. A minimum TOEFL score of 95 is required for admission, with no skill section below 20.

7. University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia is among the country’s top universities.
