The Journey
My name is Stefani Tileva, and I come from Bulgaria. Some of my biggest passions are traveling, learning languages, and experiencing different cultures. I enjoy stepping outside my comfort zone and embracing new challenges, which is what eventually led me to South Korea, where I am currently pursuing a Global MBA at Chung-Ang University through the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) program.
Global Korea Scholarship Details
Scholarship: Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) – Graduate Degree Program
Institution: Chung-Ang University, South Korea
Funding: Full scholarship covering tuition, monthly stipend, language training, and airfare.
Educational Background
I earned a Bachelor's degree in Media and Communication Studies through a dual-degree program at the University of New York in Prague and SUNY Empire State University. Studying in both European and American educational systems gave me a strong international perspective. While I enjoyed studying media and communication, I wanted to expand my knowledge in business and leadership. A Global MBA felt like the natural next step and a way to broaden my career opportunities.
Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?
Although my bachelor's degree was taught entirely in English, GKS awards additional points for language certificates, so I took the IELTS exam as part of my application.
How Did You Prepare to Apply for the Global Korea Scholarship?
The Personal Statement and Study Plan are the most important parts of the application.
They allow you to explain your motivations, goals, and reasons for choosing Korea.
After passing the document screening, applicants are invited to an interview at the Korean Embassy, where they have the opportunity to demonstrate their motivation, adaptability, and future potential.
How is Your Experience at Chung-Ang University?
My experience at Chung-Ang University has been very positive. The campus offers modern facilities, well-maintained dormitories, and excellent study spaces. One of my favorite places is the library, where I spend a lot of time studying and working on projects.
Are Your Classes Conducted in English or Korean?
My MBA program is conducted entirely in English.
Would Potential Students Have Any Problems Not Knowing Korean?
For English-taught programs, it is possible to study successfully without advanced Korean. However, GKS scholars are generally required to obtain TOPIK Level 3 before beginning their graduate studies, and learning Korean makes everyday life much easier.
What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?
I believe my strong educational background, previous experience studying abroad, and clear motivation helped strengthen my application. I was able to explain why I wanted to study in Korea, why I chose an MBA, and how it fit into my long-term goals.
Looking Back, Would You Have Done Anything Differently During Your Time in the Program?
The application process involves many documents, so allowing yourself to have several months to prepare the document would reduce the stress.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
Be yourself and tell your own story. Focus on clearly explaining your motivations and future goals rather than trying to write what you think the selection committee wants to hear.
Start early, follow the guidelines carefully, and do not be discouraged by the competitiveness of the process. Applying for GKS was one of the best decisions I have made.
