Learning basic Japanese before you arrive will make your overall experience much smoother and more meaningful.

I believe what made my application stand out was the strong combination of my detailed research proposal and my solid educational and research background. Having already earned both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in City and Regional Planning, alongside practical field experience working as an Urban Planner, I had built a deep and comprehensive understanding of urban science. This extensive background allowed me to develop a highly focused and relevant research proposal, demonstrating to the scholarship committee that I was thoroughly prepared for the academic and research rigors of a PhD program at Tokyo Metropolitan University.
