Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Details

I was awarded the Mastercard Foundation scholarship at the African Leadership College of Higher Education.

It is a fully funded scholarship that covers tuition, meals, and a stipend.

Were You Offered Any Other Scholarships?

Yes, I was offered a merit grant of $1,500 at the African Leadership University, Rwanda. But I had to reject the offer because I could not cover the remaining costs.

Educational Background

Before I got my scholarship, I had earned a National Diploma in Food Science and Technology from Kaduna Polytechnic, Nigeria, and graduated with a distinction. My studies provided me with a strong foundation in research, problem-solving, and critical thinking.

The experiences I gained in my previous studies really helped me and shaped my mindset, even though it’s in no way related to what I am currently studying.

I found information through online research, scholarship websites, and social media platforms. I made it a habit to actively search for opportunities and follow organizations and individuals that regularly share scholarship information.

Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?

No. Because I knew I could not afford the cost of a standardized test, I targeted institutions that did not require any.

I spent significant time reflecting on my personal journey, leadership experiences, entrepreneurial activities, and community impact.

I carefully answered every application question and ensured my essays clearly demonstrated:

Start early.

• Focus on your impact rather than trying to impress reviewers.
• Clearly connect your past experiences with your future goals.
• Don't disqualify yourself before applying.
• Apply even if you feel your background is not perfect.
