The Journey

My name is Rahul Kulkarni, and I come from India. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics and Automation Engineering and have accumulated over three years of professional experience. Currently, I serve as a Program Manager and Student Success Manager at RWTH Aachen University’s India Office.

In my role, I oversee a diverse portfolio of academic programs delivered in India, ensuring their seamless execution, high quality, and strong student outcomes. I collaborate closely with faculty and academic leadership while managing operational processes that support program efficiency. Additionally, I guide students throughout their academic journey—from admissions and onboarding to project support, internships, and career transitions.

My passion for interdisciplinary learning, combined with my interest in industrial innovation and technology, motivated me to pursue further education in this field. I strongly believe that continuous learning is essential to stay relevant in today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Educational Background

I completed my Bachelor’s in Mechatronics and Automation Engineering with a First Class with Distinction. My academic journey was deeply rooted in Industry 4.0 concepts, automation systems, and emerging technologies.

This foundation equipped me with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights, preparing me to pursue advanced studies in interdisciplinary domains. My consistent interest in industrial innovation and technology naturally guided me toward programs that integrate engineering with management.

How Did You Prepare to Apply to RWTH Aachen University?

My preparation involved a combination of academic readiness and thorough research. I carefully explored various programs that aligned with my interests and career aspirations.

During this process, I discovered RWTH Aachen University’s Engineering and Management in Production Systems program, which stood out due to its strong interdisciplinary structure. The blend of technical and managerial coursework perfectly matched my goals, making it an ideal choice for my higher education.

Scholarships

There are numerous scholarship opportunities available both before and after enrollment. Some notable ones include HiPS (High Potential Student Grant), Women in Engineering scholarships, and networking grants.

Additionally, the university offers several post-enrollment financial support options, ensuring that students have access to resources that can ease their academic journey.

Why Did You Choose Germany?

Germany has always been at the forefront of technological advancement, research, and innovation. Its strong industrial base, coupled with a well-established education system, makes it an ideal destination for engineering studies.

I was particularly drawn to Germany’s commitment to research-driven learning and its close integration with industry. The country’s structured, disciplined, and innovation-oriented environment aligned perfectly with my academic and professional aspirations.

Challenges as an International Student

Fortunately, I did not face significant challenges during my transition. This was largely due to the guidance I received from university mentors and the extensive research I conducted beforehand.

Being well-prepared helped me adapt quickly to the academic and cultural environment, making my transition smooth and enjoyable.

Would You Recommend Studying in Germany?

Absolutely. Germany is an excellent destination for international students seeking high-quality yet affordable education.

Studying here provides exposure to a diverse international community, fostering cultural exchange and collaborative learning. Additionally, Germany’s strong connection to industry and research creates excellent opportunities for innovation, career growth, and professional development.

Experience at RWTH Aachen University

My experience at RWTH Aachen University has been truly enriching. I had the opportunity to interact with students from diverse cultural backgrounds, learn from highly experienced faculty, and immerse myself in a new environment.

This experience not only enhanced my academic knowledge but also boosted my confidence and global perspective.

Academic Rating of RWTH Aachen University

I would rate RWTH Aachen University a 10 out of 10 academically. The institution offers a well-structured curriculum, exceptional faculty guidance, and a supportive academic environment.

It provides students with numerous opportunities to grow, both academically and professionally, across various disciplines.

Support for International Students

The university offers extensive support systems for international students, including career services, financial guidance, housing assistance, and student organizations.

These resources are highly accessible and designed to ensure that students feel supported throughout their academic journey.

Language of Instruction

Most programs, including mine, are conducted in English. However, some courses are also offered in German, depending on the program.

Is Knowing German Necessary?

Students can successfully pursue their studies without prior knowledge of German, especially in English-taught programs.

That said, I strongly recommend learning basic German, as it can significantly enhance day-to-day communication and overall cultural integration.
