Fulbright Scholarship Details

How is Your Experience at Kent State University?

My experience at Kent State University, preceded by a pre-academic program at Kansas State University, was both academically enriching and personally transformative.

The program at Kansas State marked my first immersion into the Fulbright academic environment, where I met scholars from across the world and began adapting to academic life in the United States. This experience naturally extended to Kent State, where the diversity of students, disciplines, and perspectives became a defining element of daily life.

Beyond academics, what remained most present was the continuous exchange of ideas across cultures and fields. These interactions gradually reshaped how I think about collaboration, learning, and knowledge in global contexts.

What Did You Pursue After the Fulbright Scholarship?

After completing my studies, I transitioned into professional work in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning. Today, I work as a MEL consultant, supporting international development programs implemented by organizations such as UNICEF, WFP, USAID, and the African Development Bank.

My work focuses on designing and implementing evaluation systems, conducting mixed-methods research, facilitating learning processes, and strengthening accountability mechanisms. This includes leading evaluations, supporting adaptive management, and ensuring that evidence is effectively used for decision-making in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

What made my application stand out was the coherence of my trajectory. It was not a collection of unrelated experiences, but a continuous progression from architecture to Monitoring and Evaluation, unified by a consistent interest in systems, structure, and how they function in practice.

This clarity allowed my application to present not only what I had done, but how each stage logically led to the next, and how the Fulbright opportunity fit within that broader evolution.

Looking Back, Would You Have Done Anything Differently During Your Time in the Program?

If I were to go through this process again, I would start earlier and give myself more time for reflection. The most important improvement would not be adding more experiences, but refining how they are structured and communicated.

Earlier preparation would have allowed more iteration, feedback, and clarity in shaping the final narrative.

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

My advice would be to focus on clarity rather than accumulation. A strong application is not defined by the number of experiences, but by how clearly those experiences are connected into a meaningful trajectory.

It is important to take the time to understand your own journey before writing it. Once the narrative is clear, everything else becomes easier to articulate with confidence and authenticity.
