The Journey
Hello, my name is Mou Noshin Mustafa, and I am from Bangladesh. I came to South Korea in 2022 as a Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) recipient. I pursued my Master’s degree in Technology and Innovation Management at Konkuk University through the embassy track.
Global Korea Scholarship Details
I received a fully funded scholarship for three years, which covered airfare, tuition fees, and health insurance. In addition, my research activities and conference participation expenses were supported by my professor and the university. I was also the first GKS student in my department, which made my journey even more special.
Were You Offered Any Other Scholarships?
In 2022, I also applied for the Türkiye Bursları Scholarship and the Ireland Government Scholarship. However, I ultimately chose South Korea because of my strong personal interest in the country.
Educational Background
I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Finance (Business Administration) from the University of Rajshahi, followed by an MBA in the same field. I studied on a full scholarship from my second year of undergraduate studies.
Interestingly, my school background was in science, which later helped me transition into a technology-related field in Korea. Academically, I achieved strong results, including Dean’s Awards and the highest CGPA in my faculty during my MBA.
At Konkuk University, I continued this academic performance by achieving top grades, publishing a journal paper, and completing my thesis. I also received the Best Paper Presenter Award at a conference organized by the Korea Entrepreneurship Society at Keimyung University.
How Did You Find Information About Global Korea Scholarship and Konkuk University?
I first learned about the GKS program through YouTube. Later, I explored more information through Facebook groups and online communities, which guided me through the application process.
Did You Take Any Standardized Tests? If So, How Did You Prepare for Them?
I took the IELTS exam and prepared for it within one month while completing my MBA final exams in Bangladesh.
How Did You Prepare to Apply for the Global Korea Scholarship?
I applied through the embassy track. I visited the Korean Embassy in Dhaka and submitted three sets of required documents. After the document screening stage, I attended an interview at the embassy.
How is Your Experience at Konkuk University?
My experience at Konkuk University was both challenging and rewarding. The academic environment required strong dedication, especially since I aimed to complete my degree within the standard timeline without extending semesters. It was demanding, but absolutely manageable with discipline and effort.
How Do You Rate Konkuk University Academically?
I would rate my institution 10/10 academically. The professors are supportive and not overly pressuring. If you are willing to work hard, you will succeed. Additionally, they actively prepare students for future careers.
How Does Konkuk University Support International Students?
The university provides strong support systems such as programs like Edubox, resume workshops, and interview preparation sessions (including Zoom classes), which are very helpful for career readiness.
Language of Instruction
Although classes are generally conducted in Korean, my professors communicated with me entirely in English. They were extremely supportive and accommodating.
What Did You Pursue After the Global Korea Scholarship?
I secured a full-time job at an export company three months before my graduation.
Would Potential Students Have Any Problems Not Knowing Korean?
In my honest opinion, it is very difficult to succeed academically and professionally in Korea without knowing Korean. Unless you are from one of the few native English-speaking countries, learning Korean becomes essential for long-term opportunities.
What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?
I believe my embassy interview played a crucial role. I demonstrated a genuine connection to Korea by discussing Korean culture, including K-pop and BTS. More importantly, I showed a sincere desire to live in Korea and adapt to its culture.
What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?
Looking back, I feel I made the right decision by choosing Korea. My personal values, lifestyle, and cultural preferences align well with Korean society, so I believe I chose the right place at the right time.
What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?
Do not come to Korea just for academic purposes. First, understand and genuinely appreciate the country, its culture, and its lifestyle, then pursue the scholarship.
Also, being a GKS scholar provides significant advantages in the job market, visa opportunities, and overall career growth. Without GKS, it becomes much more difficult to build a stable future in Korea.
Final Note
Thank you for the opportunity to share my journey. I hope my experience helps future applicants better understand the process and prepare confidently.
