The Journey

My name is Mona Sader, and I am from Nablus, Palestine. I hold a BSc in Biology and Biotechnology from An-Najah National University, where I graduated with a 4.0/4.0 GPA. I am currently pursuing an MSc in Physical Cell Biology and Cell Interaction at Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany.

Scholarships Details

I was fortunate to receive four international scholarship opportunities:

These scholarships were not specifically limited to Palestinian students, low-income students, or a particular social category.

These scholarships were open to international applicants and were mainly based on factors such as academic performance, CV, and overall application strength. I completed interviews successfully for the DAAD and France Excellence scholarships. I ultimately chose the DAAD Scholarship, which provides €992 per month, full health insurance, a travel allowance, funded trips within Germany, and potential rent support depending on the city and rental cost.

How Did You Prepare to Apply for the DAAD Scholarship?

I prepared for my applications by researching universities and scholarships carefully and taking the TOEFL, for which I scored 92/120 after preparing independently.

What Do You Think Made Your Application Stand Out?

My academic record was supported by research and professional experience. I have worked and trained at institutions including Forschungszentrum Jülich. My experience includes microscopy, spatial gene-expression analysis, data analysis, and laboratory techniques. I also presented research at an international symposium in Germany.

How Is (was) Your Experience at Goethe University Frankfurt?

My experience at Goethe University Frankfurt has been excellent. Frankfurt offers many opportunities for students, including internships, research positions, and HiWi student jobs.

What Advice Would You Give Those Looking to Apply for a Similar Scholarship?

My main advice to future applicants

Talk to people who are already where you want to be. Ask students about their universities, people about their cities, and researchers about their laboratories. Their personal experience can provide information that you may not find online. Ask as much as you can.

Also use YouTube; there are many students who talk about their scholarship journey and give many useful pieces of advice.

I would also encourage students to build their CV before applying, develop both academic and practical experience, prepare carefully for interviews and language tests, and apply even when a scholarship seems highly competitive. My own experience of receiving multiple scholarship opportunities showed me that applying can open doors you may not expect.
