The Journey


My name is Dr. Mohamed Tantawy, and I am originally from Egypt. I am holding Associate Professor in Clinical Biochemistry, and I am currently working as a System Course Team Leader and Lecturer in Faculty of Health Science at the Higher Colleges of Technology in the UAE.

I pursued my PhD in Medical Biochemistry at Hannover Medical School in Germany, driven by my passion for understanding disease mechanisms, particularly infection biology and cancer research.
My academic journey has always been motivated by a desire to contribute to biomedical research and to make a meaningful impact on human health through science and education.

DAAD Scholarship Details

I was awarded the prestigious DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) Scholarship, which supported my PhD studies in Germany from 2010 to 2015.

I am proud to mention that I was the youngest Egyptian student selected for this highly competitive PhD scholarship in 2010.

During my PhD, I conducted my research at:

  • Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, Germany
  • Hannover Medical School (MHH), Germany.

My research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Frank Pessler, a distinguished scientist in infection and immunology.

Were You Offered Any Other Scholarships?

Yes, I received several prestigious fellowships throughout my career, including:

  • University Leadership Fellowship (UNIlead Program), Oldenburg University, Germany (2019/2020) – selected among approximately 200 international applicants
  • Helmholtz Centre Fellowship, Germany
  • JSPS Fellowship (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science)
  • Returning Expert Award (CIM, Germany)

These opportunities significantly enhanced my academic and leadership skills.
