Handong Global University (HGU), established in 1995 in Pohang, South Korea, is a private Christian institution dedicated to nurturing global leaders through a holistic educational approach. To support international students, HGU offers a variety of scholarships. The Entrance Scholarship for International Students (With Official Language Test Scores) – English provides a 50% tuition reduction for students who have achieved a TOEFL iBT score of 85 or above, an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher, or a TEPS score of 600 or more. Similarly, the Entrance Scholarship for International Students (With Official Language Test Scores) – Korean offers tuition reductions ranging from 30% to 100% for students holding TOPIK scores, depending on their proficiency level. Additionally, the Outstanding International Students Scholarship covers admission fees and provides tuition reductions of 50% for the top 10% of students and 30% for the top 30% of students based on academic performance.
For graduate students, the Global Development and Entrepreneurship Admission Scholarship offers a 30% tuition reduction for the first semester and varying amounts in subsequent semesters for those maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The Regular Admission Scholarship provides an average of 65% tuition coverage for students who have maintained a GPA of B or above in a prior semester.
In addition to university-specific scholarships, external scholarships are available to HGU students. The Samsung Global Hope Scholarships, administered by the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation, offer financial assistance to international students from developing countries who wish to pursue higher education in South Korea. Undergraduate recipients receive KRW 3,900,000 per semester, while master’s and PhD students receive either KRW 3,500,000 or KRW 5,000,000 per semester, depending on their program.
